I've been making a modernized sgian dubh lately:

http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/showthread.php?t=667729

This is the first to make it to the forums (all the others have been orders or snapped up before they were finished.)

This one is a bit different that the regular style, having a slight clip and red liners with cable mosaic pins. The sheaths are outlines in matching red enamel, and the whole set is my "southwesternized" gambler's version of a modern sgian dubh.

I am making ten, and only ten, of this variant. All will be approximately the same size and shape, but all are to be made by hand without reference to patterns and will vary. The constants will be the finish grade, black linen micarta with red liners, and I will make the same pins up for all of them. I will not be marking specific numbers on them, but all will be in the photographs on the archive by knife serial number.

I've never done a limited run type of thing, and don't quite know how I feel about it. I love this pattern and the aesthetics of this blade, and want to make more of them, but don't want to change my focus and make too many knives like this. so, ten.

Here's the first:

8.5 inches overall, the blade is 4.25 inches. grind is a taper fromt he spine, a smoothed out constant flat grind. Edge is a convex microbevel.

Steel is 15N20, .095 (3/32) thick through the tang with a very slight distal taper towards the front. Finish is taken to 800 grit hand rub and finished with quite a bit of steel wool rubbing.

Handle is black linen micarta with red spacers and cable/tubing mosaic pins in stainless and brass.

Sheaths are made by Koyote Girl, full waterformed, with double needle hand stitched welted seams. One sheath is a small pocket/sock sheath, the other is a horizontal belt carry sheath that can also be worn on a strap.

SOLD - Asking $195, priority mail shipping included (overseas is at cost extra), and I love paypal and money orders and even checks are okay.

Oh yeah- I happened to get a royal flush in clubs this weekend in Reno, so that's why I chose those cards.

Great work! And 2 sheaths!

Yeah- I like doing the two sheaths on the sgian dubh blades, one for sock/pocket and a beefier one with a strap for horizontal carry and strapping to gear.

hawkman: secret project, I've been hiding this one! I didn't even post the WIP photos I had of it.

Koyote Girl gets extra credit for asking me to do the red liners, and for working out the leather tricks on the sheaths

Those sheaths are really nice, they add hugely to the overall look. What a great piece.

:D Awesome knife. Sheaths and the red liners in the handle compliment and complete package beautifully. Excellent feel and balance. Still in amazement when I handle and look at it. Hats off to Christof and Koyote Girl!
-Thankyou
