Photos 'MODERN' Slipjoints Picture Tread

What is GEC?
Great Eastern Cutlery. They're some really well done American-made slipjoints, beautiful, actually hand-made with a quality to boot... the red micarta in particular, I really love. But, you know the culture around Spyderco's Sprint Runs? Evidently, that is the culture around the whole brand, as they do "drops" which are snapped up in seconds and sold on the secondary market for a huge markup..

Question for everyone replying to this thread: What is it about the slipjoint that appeals to you(other than maybe legal requirements)? I like many of the traditional designs but I personally just feel better with a locking blade which is why I generally don't buy slipjoints.

This is one I have. A gift from a very kind coworker I used to have. He was one of the Americans working in the border factory I was working at. I told him I liked knives and the next day he showed up with this. It is nothing special in terms of quality, etc. But it meant the world to me when he gave me that knife and I carried it every day for a while.

Since I saw somebody else post a Victorinox here is a special one I have:

Because, a slip joint teaches you to use a knife like it was intended for and doesn’t give you a false sense of security that a locking knife will do.

L Legendary_Jarl I like slipjoints because they mentally take me back to a different time. Just by looking at them I get a sense of ease and of simpler times. I like to think about how my grandpa, or his grandpa might have carried a knife like this everyday back in his day, and back then it was as modern as it got. I also like how they're just simple no-nonsense tools. I think I like them more than most backlocks because once a knife has any sort of lock, then part of me subliminally feels like it's more modern, and if it's "more modern" then, for some reason, I always want to put a thumbstud on it or something to make it a one hand opener. I just appreciate the old world simplicity behind them.

That's a good story. Can never have to many friends that give you knives.

I think these are all my current modern slip joints…

The mnandi isn't a slipjoint
raiseshand Please pardon my ignorance, but which one of the knives posted by Z Zeroedin is the Mnandi? I don't recognize any of them as being a CRK Mnandi, which is the only one with which I'm familiar. Are there other brands of mnandis? Or is one a CRK and I just don't recognize it as such?

I just realized that my only (semi)modern slipjoint is my Alox, but I really like the idea of this thread, so this is my participation.

I find that I get more use out of my SAK than any other knife by far.

Sorry, I edited/deleted the Mnandi pic. Not sure if that’s poor form or not, but I took a nose dive into “major blunder” territory by posting it in the first place…..and there’s absolutely no chance of me walking away from this one unscathed.

Ugh, what’s left of my charred remains are gonna be served up as fodder for the wine & cheese crowd. I suggest everyone keep their distance….I’d hate to take anymore else down with me.

these all work and cut great but the VERY sharpest knife I own is this Civivi Trailblazer XL in Damascus, I've added mirror polished edge bevels and it is an astounding cutter!
