Modern Slipjoints

I’ve always considered them just slip joint knives. Not even close to a traditional slip joint knife. Seems like everyone that makes knives are coming out with a slip joint, which doesn’t qualify it as a traditional.
Here’s a few I’ve got.

Hey bud, can you please tell me any more about the Kershaw at the bottom of the first picture? I'm not sure, but I think I may need one of those.lol. They all look nice, but that one just seems to suit me...

Here's a few of mine that are on the modern side.
Boker BFF Barlow, AEB-L blade
Fox Livri, M390
Viper, M390
Fox, Recoil Gunstock, M390

I have two in my collection that I would consider on the modern side. Our 2020 BF swayback and this Tinus Stone. Not really sure how the Stone is constructed but it is as sturdy as any traditional folder I have handled. I enjoy both of these very much.

It’s the Kershaw Federalist

The federalist falls into a category that I wonder about. Double Detent knives. Not slip-joints, but non-locking. Do people like them? I wanted a ZT230 until I handled one. They just seem wrong to me, but maybe it was just that one knife.
There is so much in this thread to drool over.

I had one but did not like the double detent. It was far too weak for my liking. I ended up giving it away. I did like how it looked just couldn't get over the action and detent.

I guess I got a thing for Italians.

I hadn’t carried a slipjoint at work before Merle came to visit. And while I’ve still got a trusty Spyderco on me at work, this lil’ guy has been riding also.

M390 is alright as far as soooper steels go, but I’ve moved on to the Magnacut bandwagon. There’s a cat just down the road from me, goes by Delight Valley Blades. His construction is more traditional, notable exceptions being titanium liners, and I’ve never seen him use a metallic bolster. A few shadow patterns, mostly he has a bolster in different material, a lot of micarta, sometimes carbon fiber, this one has Elforyn for the bolster and shield. IMG_7711.jpeg
