Modification idea, warranty, grinding. Reccomendations/advice please.

It might be easier to slowly hacksaw off the excess and then slowly grind down the remainder... you might get an extra infi blade out of it. ;) Either way, there is a significant portion of material to be hogged off.

I definitely get the idea... in fact I am extremely tempted to do almost the same mod and have been mulling it over for quite a while now. I wish I had gotten the old sharpening wheel/grindstone from my grandma back in the day before she sold it, that would have been perfect for this kind of project, albeit time consuming!

The end result will be close to a 1311, from INFI. Except it won't, as the INFI BB13 is thicker than a 1311.

This is an interesting question to me with all of the thick and thin options lately.

It might be fun to have both and see how .1875" flat saber feels next to .25" reground to full flat. Same blade?

Lol! Peel off those cheeks of bacon with a deli slicer and make yourself a set of steak knives :pig:

Or a homemade Holy Terror... ;) Jerry hasn't offered one of those in years!

Got to thinking while I was hiking this afternoon, especially what Resinguy said about "making a blade your own"-- it really started to resonate with me...

I concede that sometimes an ELU's actual usage needs often does not align with the designer's philosophy of use...

So, with that inspiration I'm gonna step outside the box a little bit...check this out:

So, Bacon...more power to you brother....DO IT...NO REGRETS!!! :D

Turning a corrugated sabre into a full flat won't leave you much... I would actually prefer a true BASIC 13 rather than a fancy 13 like the bolo. None of the other Basic's have been offered in Bolo.. Although I'm really stoked that Jerry offered us the BB13... I'd really just have liked a B13 in full flat and WITH BLACK RES C.

Good luck Luke!

Lawrie, the BB13 is a flat saber grind, no CBT. I reckon it will turn out great but cheers for the luck i'll take it anything i can - this wil be my frst major mod!

I would also prefer a basic 13 but am still stoked with the BB13!!!!!

Nubatama Ume 24 Grit waterstone would work excellent for grinding down the hump without risking heat treat, although it will take some effort on your part. You would just grind the edge straight into the stone until there is a large/thick flat on the edge and the blade profile is where you want it. I have done this sort of thing plenty of times with this stone to remove recurves that have been added inadvertently from others sharpening efforts… albeit nowhere near as exaggerated as the recurve on the BB13. This is exactly the sort of thing this stone is made for, as you use this stone to change a knife's basic shape to something else.

amazing video.

Thanks, it's a great stone to have laying around for stuff like this….

This Leatherman Personal Survival tool came to me in a trade with a mostly serrated edge (:barf:) and hollow saber grind (:barf::barf:). I used the 24 to grind off the serrations to a plain edge and reground the primary to full height convex, I then finished it off with my Atoma 140 .

This took me maybe an hour to get the bulk of the work done, gone slowly so I didn't ding up the frame too much. It must be noted that unless using this stone at high pressures (small contact areas/high force applied), it tends to wear smooth quickly This is very difficult to recondition/lap as the stone has an extremely strong bond and fracture strength, so I went back and forth between grinding the edge 90 degrees into the stone and regrinding the primary to keep the abrasive fresh.

That is the best way to make sure that you do not heat up an edge.

Thank you for the inspiration! Now I can finally have a full-size bowie from INFI!
Here's my grinding plan, slimmed out, sharpened top edge:

Then, remove the Res C (I'm sure I'll find a new home for it somewhere), and then put on a sweet guard and new handle (I'm thinking stag).
Can't get my fotochop-fu going right now, but maybe later.
