Here are another couple GEC #15 boy's knives that I have modified. For these knives, I only used the original blade and spring. Everything else, I made using raw stock.
The first is a single bladed spear, with stainless steel liners, bronze bolsters, box elder burl scales, and a double pinned shield. This is a very slim knife, with a light pull, right around a 3. The shallow easy-open notch and the light pull make the blade easy to pinch. Even with the light pull on the blade, the knife still "walks and talks" very nicely, and has no blade play.
This would be a great knife for someone with arthritis, or short fingernails. The bolsters are nicely polished, and the box elder is just stunning. There is a minor issue with the knife, being some small gaps on the back spring, so I will be selling it at a discount.
$180 SOLD
The second knife is a true stunner, and one of the nicest beerlows I have made! Brushed bronze bolsters, stainless steel liners and pins, with top grade mammoth ivory scales. The pulls on the blades are around 5-6, and both "walk and talk" nicely, with no blade play. The blue/green streaks down the scales are just stunning in person. The mammoth is nicely polished to show off as much of the grain as possible, and contrasts beautifully with the satin finish on the bronze. Truly a gorgeous one of a kind knife.
$300 SOLD
I can only imagine how beautiful these knives are going to look after the bronze starts to develop it's multicolored patina. Bronze patinas a lot like copper, with colors ranging between blue, purple, green, and pink, and changing color in different lights and from different viewing angles. It is a personal favorite of mine to use on bolsters, and rarely, if ever, used on traditional slipjoints.
