I just wanted to take a sec to show off coyote711's handiwork on the sodbuster jr. that he gave away in this thread.

Here is a stock soddie jr.:

And here is the knife as modified by coyote711 (sorry for the lousy iPhone photo):

Case really ought to consider going with this blade profile, IMO. Anyway, thanks again for the great knife, coyote711!

You're very welcome, Mark!

P.S. Hopefully on this thread we won't have people entering the giveaway, for your knife, two months after the fact! ;) (Thanks for closing the old one, Elliott ;))

that reprofiled edge looks so much better than standard. I think someone should send a Case that picture ;)

Great knife, Mark, and excellent work, Keith.

I was sorry to have to close the other thread but it combined a few of my pet peeves all at once:

Members who only participate in order to get something for free.
Members who don't respect the forum or its members enough to bother reading the threads.
Members who ignore the parameters set by the OP (whether it be a giveaway, a search for a knife with certain attributes or any other worthy pursuit).

Folks who post only to get something or are just looking for an excuse to post up their own toys (or point of view) regardless of whether it is fitting for the thread, are just plain selfish in my view.

So, please accept my apologies for having to close the prior thread and also for venting here.

Thankfully, so many more of our members get it right (like you Keith, and you, Mark) that the other stuff is just a minor annoyance.

Thanks, guys! :cool::thumbup:

It seems like those are some of my pet peeves also. It burned me up a bit the last few give aways I did, that I had people that had never posted in the traditional forum before, in spite of my posting that it was for traditonal regulars only. I hate free loaders and mooches, so I understand your venting very well.

Too bad we can't have a double secret handshake or something to keep the vultures out of our club house.

Mark, great work on that soddie. I just may do that to mine, if you don't mind my copying your design. I'll call it the Mark 1 in your honor!

Yeah, the Case yellow CV sodbuster Mark 1. Quite a mouthful.

Carl.

Oh, and Keith did the modifications on Mark's knife. Mark is the lucky beneficiary. (So you may have to take that into consideration in the naming.)

As to the secret handshake...I have a policy of my own regarding my giveaways. If the person whose number or post comes up as a winner is either not a regular or a Traditional Forum contributor (as opposed to someone who sits on the sidelines awaiting giveaways), they will not be selected regardless of whether they might have otherwise.

I think we all know who the regulars and the contributors are to this sub-forum and that recognition may be the best handshake of them all.

I remember when your giveaway came up and you said only regulars and ones who you know by name or screenname. Man there were people there who I had never seen or heard about or had like 20ish posts.

On another note...great looking knife. I agree that it looks much better with a bit finer of a point. I did it to mine, with thanks to Elliott, and I love it much more. Looks more like a KHnutBuster to me haha!

Well, I think you'd better just show us some images, Corey. Don't you think? ;)

Keith,
How do you do a mod like this?
What tools do you need?

The Queen comes with a point!
But the blade is much narrower than a Case

I used a bench grinder to take off the belly - - ground slowly so not to overheat the steel and ruin the temper. By the time I had the belly off, the "cutting edge" looked like the spine - - flat and no bevel at all. Used the bench grinder to put on as good a two sided bevel as I could, and finished up on the bench stones. It turned out pretty good, but I attribute it more to luck than skill. ;)

Nice work Keith. I must admit I am also not a fan of the lack of a point on the Soddie. Given the price, I ain't complaining though.

Oooh, i like that. I kind of have love for both the original, and the modified blade shape, though. I usually love a nice, stabby point, But I've found the crazy belly on a Soddie type blade to be pretty useful.

Kinda makes me want to go find the Opinel my dad snapped the tip on and left to rust, and do the Wharncliffe mod with a dremel that I saw posted up on here... :D

I seem to recall this coming up a couple times before- a modded Case sodbuster with a more acute tip put on. It does look better, and it would arguably work better than the usual blade profile. But the standard sodbuster profile is traditional, and is part of the definition of the pattern. If you change the blade as in the OP, you no longer have a "Sodbuster" per-se, you have a shadow jack. Although a very cool one!

Great job on the regrind! I also think the Case version doesn't have enough point to it. I personally like the blade profile in Kerry Hampton's sodbuster interpretation called the "KHnutbuster".

Hmmm, I just thought how cool it would be to have a Hampton/Case collaboration knife with his take on the sodbuster being the first knife in that series.

Yes please!  I'm all for Case collaborations, and that particular idea is an excellent one.

Here are two modded soddie jr blades...one done to a clip, the other to a spey, both hollow ground. I love the original blade...it is a workhorse. But all that steel just asks for a mod or two at times...
