modified knife opening groove

This past weekend I went to a knife show where I saw a knife modification by, Total Sharp Cutlery Co. The modification was at the spine of the blade near the handle, where a groove was made to allow the knife to be opened while removing the knife from one's pocket by catching the groove on the edge of the pocket. Does anyone know the positives and negitives of this idea? Does anyone else do this?

p.s. I purchase a Spyderco Military 440v plain edge at the show and am liking it more everyday. Thanks Blade forum.

Sounds like someone copied the wave which is patent pending from Emerson's Commander.
