Modified my old childhood Vic gardner

Here's my 1967 childhood SAK from Basel. I had never seen anything like it. When Vic refurbished it 30 years later, they replaced the broken-springed scissors with some bigger ones that still fit (obviously). I'm pretty sure they replaced the broken-tipped hawkbill with a smaller one also, but it's just possible they ground it down and polished it. They also somehow fluffed up the celidor that I had crushed in a vise, having convinced myself the knife had lateral play.
The main blade says Victorinox on one side and Elinox with a crossbow on the other.

Well that's awesome, seems a bit too bulky for an EDC size but still awesome. It's got a bail too,
I never knew they made anything with a bail.

The back end of the scales on one side got messed up on me somehow, and I had just cut that part off and turned the exposed piece of backspring into a Flathead screwdriver which it turned out not to be hard enough for.
It didn't look good to just grind that off, so I decided to see if I could remove the scales and reassemble it without them.

I did and now it's extremely thin, maybe too thin, but only some use and handling will tell.

Even though I had a shim in there it still ended up a little tight because I was trying to get the pins nice and rounded. It's still got some good snap opening, it's just a bit slower on the closing.

I plan to EDC it this weekend and see how it works out, I always loved this knife but just couldn't bring myself to carry it the past few years because of how ugly the damage made it in my eyes.
It's not perfect looking now, but I think it has a bit of rustic charm.

H&S I think that knife looks great and would carry it proudly.:cool: Can't beat a knife that comes from your childhood so many memories attached make it better than any other knife. Good job my friend good job.:thumbsup:

SP same as I said to H&S childhood knives are the best and that one looks great. Is that main serrated or is it just an optical illusion from the picture?

Okay I know I've posted this a lot but here's my first knife a Colonial Barlow my grandfather gave me and Glennbad brought it back to life.

I never get tired of seeing this, thanks for the pic.

The interest in what I thought was a similar imperial Barlow is what really drew me here to the porch.
It turned out it was a Chinese copy, but thankfully r8shell gifted me the real deal and I love it.

The main is serrated on mine; I never liked that, but I wouldn't want to have the double-stamped blade replaced either. It is big for edc, but it was my edc when I was a kid (fortunately it wasn't 0 tolerance for pocket knife days yet). The store had bigger ones, but I thought this was about the pocketable max.
I would carry it on my belt, but one of my most important tools these days is the magnifier, which this one lacks.
