Hi all. Well, I finally got this back & it's now pretty much completed. A friend of mine, "trimcut123" was nice enough to modify a used PE ATR that I had. Enclosed are the pics & some comments.
Matt cut out & finished a blue/black G-10 scale for me that's the same thickness as the standard SS non-lock frame. I think he brought out the colors very well & says he also bead-blasted the G-10. All I can say is, it looks great!
He also bead-blasted the lock side SS frame, polished up the blade & attached a Ti low-riding clip to the G-10 side (See attached pic of in pocket for further).
What's amazing is that these few mods really change the dynamic of the knife. Because of the clip being moved to the end of the handle & being a different design, it makes the ATR seem much thinner than it is. Actually, it was/is thin, but that clip made is "seem" thicker, IMHO.
Anyways, I don't have a scale handy, but it's awefully close in weight to my Yojimbo (3.6 oz.). A standard ATR is listed at 5.4 oz., so I'll safely say this is probably around 4.0 oz. (Probably lighter).
What was a very good knife is much better now. The ATR, IMHO, is a tactical folder & its shininess was a detraction. Although the blade's polished, the bead-blasted SS scale & G-10 on the other side, gives it a better look & feel.
While I admit trimcut123 did this for me because of a suggestion by me & as a friend, I believe he's already started to make scales for other knives, too. In my case, I think I supplied the material & gave him a knife (A CS SRK Carbon V, IIRC).
Anyways, hope you like & please excuse the pics.
