Hey there everybody! Here’s a new tanto I’ve finally finished. It could be considered an Aikuchi I suppose since it’s guardless. But I just can’t abide a smooth transition from under the handle to the edge, seems dangerous, so I added the “guardy” nubs!

Steel is 1/8” x 1 5/16” at the nubs and the blade height is 15/16”. NitroV with professional HT at 60/61.

Hand sanded to 1500 grit for a fine reflective finish. The edge was about .010” before sharpening and it balances at the second wrap. There’s some pretty clean filework on the spine instead of a swedge.

Dimensions: 10 1/4” OAL, Tip to Scales 5 5/16”

The handle is blue Terotuf with brass pins and tube and golden Ito wrap. For me there was a long learning curve on my first wrap job and it’s not perfect but looks pretty darn good imo. It feels great in my average sized hand with room for more.

Fun story (or sad if you were me) I’m no “tier” of knots and spent a couple of days trying to braid the lanyard with various tutorials. My wife did the braid in about 15 minutes.

The sheath says “Peace from Strength” in Kanji according to a few translators I checked.

So… Tanto? Aikuchi? Abomination? You decide!!

Abomination my tailfeathers...i'm not knowledgeable about traditional Japanese blade styles and types. Looking from a point of view that embraces cool knives of most any style, I'd love to be able to examine it in person. I think the sheaths you create match the knife each belongs with in really nifty ways.

Thanks for the kind words guys, I really appreciate it!
