I like the blade, I hate the handle. Has anyone here ever changed the handle on a Special? If so, what should I expect? How difficult is it to get the phenolic off?

I've done a few. They are not too difficult.Pic is a 103 skinner, not a special, but about the same.I sit the phenolic handle on the flat of my vise and smash it with my biggest ball peen. You can also just crush it,but that's no fun.

I have a 119...is it a flat tang or round-stock tang?

I'd like to have a set of micarta slabs on it with a little more "flat" to the sides.

If it's a flat tang it just may be possible

It's a flat tang that extends all the way down to the butt where it is pinned through the side of the butt. You could probably just knock the pin out.

Pin is aluminum and binds up if you try to punch it out.I have to drill it.Here's a 119.

Is the plastic solid? Or at least thick enough to reshape? Will it polish back up easily? Those stag handles look great, but well beyond my abilities at the moment. The handle is too big for my hand.
