Modifying a Cold Steel Scimitar

Has anyone ever tried removing the "ball" pommel on a Scimitar I don't like it and I feel like removing it. Has anyone done this.
 
though i dont have one i have looked at them, is the ball solid or hollow?? if hollow its gonna look funky imho if ya cut it off.
 
I have a Cold Steel Scimitar, but I've never felt like the ball was really in my way. If you were using this knife for EDC I wouldn't recommend removing the ball because it can be used as a non lethal impact tool, if you were ever to defend yourself with the knife.
