just a sneak peak of my modifications to my Hungarian.

I really like the grind you did. Any chance you’ll post a pic of the whole knife open & closed?

Perhaps a little less ethnic, but a lot more practical...

The Hungarian is a very underrated model, IMHO. I especially enjoy the ergos of the handle...kinda Opinel like but very very comfy >>> nothing else like it in the lineup for Spyderco.

How'd you remove that top quillion? It appears you did a great job keeping the lines consistent. Looks factory from where I'm sitting! Reminds me of how I modded my Schempp Bowie.

I bought the Hungarian with the intent to modify it. No offense to the designer as I know he was sticking to the ethnic profile, but it wasn’t comfortable and looked like a penis. Also, the blade shape didn’t match the handle. Looked like two different knives combined together. Just didn’t flow. I took the top off using a belt sander, dremel, and files.

It’s your knife, this was another near miss for me. Is it just me or does it look more like a Military now?

The blade certainly looks Military-ish, as Yonose notes. Should be a superb slicer. CTS-XHP will take a very fine edge.

The micarta on this and the vallaton look amazing! I almost picked up one of these for just over $100, I thin k $119?

You should have gotten one. The build quality and intricacy are outstanding, but I just feel the execution of looks and ergonomics are lacking. Unfortunately, as part of the ethnic series they had to stick to what they were replicating.

I regret not getting this and the k2 almost every day! But I’ve enough spydies to fill the gap, so I can’t complain too much! Btw, it seems you took a lot off that blade, did you mention how?

I hated the K2. I love big knives but ergonomically it’s crap. I have big hands and still wasn’t comfortable.

Took meat off the spine of the blade with a belt sander and dremel making sure to cool in water ever couple seconds so the blade never heated up. There wasn’t a point during the whole process that the blade got hot or discolored.

I heard about the ergo needing work, but I would have loved to try that big slab of 10v steel. Did you sell yours? If you could modify the Hungarian, I’m sure you could modify the k2 though! I’ve taken metal off low alloy steels, but never tried anything like cts-xhp.

I traded it for a new ZT 0562CF a while back and I love the ZT. The 10V is nice but prone to rust. M390, 20CV, and 204P are some of my favorite steels.

I need to cerakote the Hungarian but it’s too damn hot. Maybe tomorrow.
