I got this ASH-1 a couple of weeks ago and, although I really liked the ergos, I felt the blade shape could be improved.

So I stripped it down and drilled the handle off.

It took a while to figure out what to take off and what to leave, but, I managed to get the knife I wanted in the end.

This is a knife of extremes...

From very thick to very thin...

Those deep plunge grinds gave me quite a lot of trouble.

Here it is above my BATAC.... I prefer the ergos of the ASH-1.

And here is a shot of my set of modified Busse knives.

Thanks for watching. :)

Man, it looks fantastic Soupy. If you don't mind, what DID you wind up taking off??

It looks so much smaller with the handle removed...

If I owned this set I think it would put an end to my knife buying. I really don't see a way to improve on that.

This is exactly what separates careful skilled hand work from production knives.

This should be a sticky for the often asked question of why custom knives are worth the money.

Soupy your a God. Now finish my RW or I am going to have to cut you off. :D

Art....pure art.

.2" off the spine!! Whoa! Now I'm really impressed. I may need to see shop pics.

That is excellent work on the ASH1. I was thinking about doing the same to the spine. But do not want to use power tools so it'd have to be by hand. And that could take some time.

What did you use? Belt sander?

Again, that looks perfect. Great job.:thumbup:

Thanks Tyrkon.

I used a cheap 6" stone wheel bench grinder and a huge bucket of cold water to dunk the blade after every pass.

But.... 0.32" INFI meeting a 6" grinding stone sounds like the gates of hell opening... I had to use ear plugs. :D

These are the most awesome knives I've seen. For those of you who have never owned a Walter Brend, this is what his knives are finished like. A Busse with a Brend finish. The best of both worlds. I'll take them Soupy!!

Wow very nice Soup! Do you also have pics in action when modifying this or the other blades?

You did that with a bench grinder. Whoa. I bow at your feet.
