I have 5 or 6 Cold Steel tomahawks and a few axes. On tomahawks, it is a mandatory service to fix/correct that sharp point on the axe's eye. A round file or a Dremel (micro angle grinder) is sufficient to correct and prevent the eyelet from fraying the cable.

One last post, I forgot my CS Viking axe. If your interested in the Handle (haft) design, it is an old gunstock makers trick of wrapping the wood with a cotton or hemp twine and them flame burning it, in my case I used butchers cotton string the kind used to wrap a roast with.
thanks for looking and I'll stop flooding the site with my stuff.

So the twine leaves the protected area? Do you wet it ?

Recently picked up an viking bearded axe/hawk from CS.

The fit and finish out of the box was kind of shit, the grain in the shaft isn't straight, the head came screwed on to shaft at some crazy angle without being pounded all the way up. The tip of the axe on the top came pre bent. But nothing I shouldn't be able to fix. that said, this thing is just fun.

I only own the Rifleman hawk. It arrived in good shape. I sanded the handle, applied BLO. Deburred the eye, welded set screw hole.

What l haven't done yet is shorten the handle. Going to cut an inch at a time. Probably needs about 4 inches removed.
