Went to office this morning with expectation that the hawk is waiting for me there
And it was there kept by my working colleague. She passed the package to me and I opened it with excitement. Then I'm just sitting there staring at the gorgeous axe (i.e. hawk is something never exist in Malaysia so it's simply called as an axe or a Red Indian axe just because we saw it in the western movies since long ago). That was the very first moment I and my office colleague laid our eyes on a real thing called as a tomahawk. Then suddenly everybody was asking permission from me to hold it with their own hands. All praises and nice comments just flowing out from their lips
Brought it home after office and I showed them to my family members and again everybody in my small family were in awe with the sight and the feel of it. Now we know the actual feeling of a tomahawk in our own hand rather than imagining it in our head while watching the similar thing did wonders in The Patriot. Anyhow since we live in an apartment in a city so we just treat it as a big boy toy to be fondled around until we can bring it back to my village for a real play. I guest it will take some time before I could really heck some branches or small trees with it or throwing it to a target simply because it's so beautiful
Measuring it I found out that the length of the head from the tip of the spike to the sharp edge is 8 1/2". The length of the sharp edge is 2 3/4". The length of the handle made from hickory is 19". I'm not sure about the weight but it sure feel just right in my hand as less than 1 lb. The hawk is mark with initial SL at the bottom front of the hawk head
Thank you very much Steve for building such a gorgeous hawk as a retirement present to myself. I'll post a thread in Malaysian forums about it so that it can be shared among knife enthusiast in Malaysia. One comment from my eldest son is "Pity her Dad, she will be so lonely down here without partner! Don't you think you should get another one?" I think I know what's actually in his head right now
