Moki Knives - Am I Missing Something?

I just got a new Moki Ares MK-633CRZ. It has a very secure lock up, very nice precision of parts, good action, and a razor sharp VG-10 blade.

Is there something wrong here? I admit I am not an expert on knife brands by any stretch, but I have never heard of this brand before. I guess I just stumbled on to something.

Am I right in thinking that this is a quality brand?

Thanks,
Brian

They have been making fine A. G. Russell knives for years and fine knives for several other American brands as well. They are very very high quality.

I think the price is right too. ~ $115, and better workmanship of many other knives at that same price point.

It appears though that you need to like a thumbnail opening style - I can't seem to find more than a model or two that use a stud of hole.

I purchased my first Moki about 20 years ago. Looking at my notes they were hand made in Siki City, a small town in Central Japan. Company started in 1907 (one man). They were high end knives when I purchased mine. Blade material ATS-34, length closed 3.7 " The handle is inlaid with: Abalone, Mother of Pearl, Black lip Pearl & SS into mother of pearl & Abalone. It's value then was about $332.95 List. Realy good workmanship. Pictures could be better- Quick shot them to show one Moki style. Enjoy your knife.

Here's some William Henry knives I own. The second one from the left was made by Moki. If you notice the logo is different indicating that the knife was made for not by WH. It's a very well made knife with a scary sharp VG-10 blade.

Like A.G. said, Moki makes some VERY high quality knives. In fact, I've never seen a Moki knife that was anything less than awesome, as far as fit, finish and eveness of grinds was concerned.

My Lakota Falcon is made by Moki.....very sharp, very good fit and finish of the metal / wood. An underrated maker. VERY high quality for the price.

Hardly underrated, just little known to the public, not to the knifemakers they are now two years backlogged and getting worse. Oh, well.

I have one of their small lockbacks with red jigged bone. It is a very well-balanced, and extremely well-made knife. Very much worth the $120.00 it costs.

About 10 years ago my father gave me a Moki Glory. It is an example of outstanding workmanship. I would not hesitate to recommend their products.

I have a number of Moki knives, and think that they are great users, with premium materials and beautiful design as well. Great value, overall.

I've owned many over the years and like everyone has said, Mokis are superb knives. Here's an unusual one, (excuse the lousy scan), called a gun knife that has a Colt like grip when opened and a holster like sheath. Exceptional sambar stag and super quality build.

There are many japanese manufacturers, that are excellent at manufacturing (they are often sub-contractors to premium US makers such as Spyderco, Al Mar or WH...) and have poor communication/marketing department.

This means they are available at a very low price for quality, and offer an excellent quality/price ratio compared to more hyped products.
See Mcusta, G.Sakai, Seki-cut, Moki, Hattori to some extend...

Just going off of two of my Spydercos (Ed Shempp Persian and J.D. Smith), which I've read are both made for Spyderco by Moki, I have to say their quality is tops!

Very good quality. Not under rated at all. In fact they are highly respected. They have been around for a long time. AG has been selling Moki made knives for years They have also been advertising in Blade for years. Perhaps you just weren't paying attention-Haa! How does the Moki WH compare to the other WH Knives?
