Mokume Gane, which metal combination? acid etched or not?

I am looking for affordable Mokume Gane to make lanyard beads. My local supplier send me this photo (brass + copper). The contrast seems weak to me. Is it so before an acid bath? Or this is low quality material? Any problems you see?
