I know this isn't a jewerly website, but I am searching for a wedding band for myself that is going to be low-key but stylish. I ran across a mokume website but the prices were outrageous! I know a lot of folks here work in Damascus, mokume, titanium, etc and also have extensive experience in machining and the like. Basically I'm putting feelers out to see if anyone can work with me on this. The ring would have to be made from "stainless" materials, of course...just a thought.

I've been looking for a good deal on a mokume or titanium wedding band myself. All the mokume is extremely expensive. Probably worth it but a little out of our budget. There is a company called Exotica that does really nice titanium wedding bands. There is a company in Canada and another one in New Zealand that also offer titanium.

After reading posts on titanium, I am somewhat confused as to its exact properties, such as how hard it is, but it seems clear that as used it is tough. Thus, I would hesitate to use such a material as a wedding band. I read a blurb somewhere that warned against it, because hospital emergency rooms, etc., are not machine shops. Such tough materials can be hard to cut away without damaging soft flesh. Just think of all the ways you can cause your finger to swell up, necessitating the removal of the ring. I have seen several swollen fingers just from the finger getting stubbed in playing basketball, nevermind falls, hammers, doors, pinched under a Titanium <g> crowbar, etc.

In the aforementioned story the finger was injured and it was quite a job to cut the ring off. I do not recall how they did it.

How about hammered white gold instead? Then go out and get a couple of matching Sebenzas (Sm. or Lrg) or Umfaans; and matching Titanium watches. I know I like my Titanium in these articles!!!!!

Chiro,
If you can provide me with the material, I would be glad to machine it for you! I don't have any Ti round stock big enough for a ring or any of the other materials you mentioned. Ti would be the least expensive way to go. Are you thinking of leaving it gray?? I don't think anodizing will hold up very long on a ring! I made a Ti shift knob for my car and I have re-anodized it several times in the past two years!!!! If it didn't have holes drilled all through it I would use it for your ring!!!!!
Michael Walker, I beleive is the US distributor for Damasteel. I comes in round stock. It is a stainless damascus. I'm not sure what Diameters are available. If you want the address Email me. I have the literature, I just have to find it!

Dr. Lathe, I might take you up on your offer. We shall see. Can you do grooves and stuff like that, too, or just a usual dome pattern? Let me know. As for the rumor about Ti rings not being able to be cut off in emergency situations, this is an urban legend that sprouts up in bicyclists' forums all the time. It is an untruth!

Between the lathe and the milling machine with the rotary table, I can come up with just about anything! If you provide me a sketch of what you want along with the size (inside diameter) I will make you a stainless prototype!! Then, if you like that, we can go with the expensive material.
Is this wedding band or bands???? Dont you need 2???? It's been 10 years since I got married, I forgot!!!!!!

The ol'Battle Axe likes white gold. I don't see any reason why they have to match. As a future doctor of chiropractic I need something that is classy, but unobtrusive, and which doesn't bring too much attention to itself. My hands literally are my life, so it needs to blend in, yet be cool enough that I will like it!

I'll be getting in touch...
