Anyone here have any experience with Mokume? If it is pinned, what is usually used for pin material?
Also, which stainless steels are suitable for spring material. 416? Which ones and what hardness is used. Thanks for any info.

Ive only done one set of bolsters with mokume-gane. It was copper and nickel-silver so I used ns pins. You can see them if you really look close, but they blend in for the most part. I don't make folders, but I think RC45-50 is in the range for what i've read for liner locks. Can't help you w/ the alloy question though...sorry

my first choice would be to soft solder the mokume to the blade or liners. second would be to use file worked screws. Last choice would be pins. the reason that I would use pins last is that as you grind down the mokume after peening the pins the pattern is going to change and even if you had the pins hidden to start with they may end up showing when finnished. any thing that works for blades will work for springs if tempered correctly.
