I want to try and make mokume not for knives but I think it might work we will be doing what different types of metals can I use I have seen steel.copper.brass.nickel sliver. but what about alumininum I would like to share my idea but this is for a friends project and he wants to keep it on the DL for now. sorry but pics will come eventually

Forget about aluminium.
The easiest combination to begin with is copper and (pure) silver. The reason is, that the melting point of the Cu/Ag eutectic alloy is much lower than the melting points of the pure elements. Thus, the welding interval is pretty big.
All other combinations of bronce, nickel silver, brass, shakudo, shibuichi, gold, platinum, etc. also works, of course.

I agree.
Copper and fine silver are a good starter combo. With fine silver sheet selling at over $20/oz., you can keep the learning curve cheaper ( Oh yes!, you will have failures and meltdowns), by using copper and nickle silver.
