ya know, i like my ASH. the more i fondle it, the more it grows on me. i'm sure a lot of people feel this way, but there is just something about my ASH that pulls me to it. i thought i'd buy it as a piece of busse history, and it's become much more than that. more comfortable than i would have thought, and i think it will be more than functional as well, even though i haven't beat it yet.

then there's the NO-e. i know tyrkon has spoken on this one for a long time, and after acquiring one of my own some time ago i have to agree. it seems to be a knife that can fit any niche, and fit almost all of them very well. i have a very hard time seeing myself ever parting with my outlaw, and it is definitely one of my top three busse's.

the other e-handles, well there is something special about them too. not quite up there with the straight handles, but still a part of busse history. and i really do love my badger ergo. i think i'll have this one for a long, long time.

my HOGFSH, now there is a knife. i think i can safely call this one my "to the grave" knife. barring some unknown, unbelievable, and completely unforeseen circumstance, i can't imagine that i will ever part with this. it is what i picture a total SHTF, zombie killing, can serve any purpose, got to have it, can do anything with it, knife to be. camping, survival, whatever, for me this is the grail of busses.

then there is my mole jack. i can't think of a real practical use for this knife. when i look at my blades, it's not a camp knife. it's not practical for an EDC. i really don't think i'll ever actually use it. but every night when i sit here perusing blade forums and fondling my blades, more often than not i find myself with my mole jack in my hand. i don't know what it is about it, but damned if i don't just like this thing. there is just something comforting and natural about the way it feels in my hand. i don't know what the general consensus is on these, but i just wanted to take a moment to let everyone know how i feel about my mole jack. if you have one and feel the same, please, take a moment to let everyone else know as well.

good point... i don't have any of just the mole jack, but here's an old family photo with the jack at the bottom.

My GOD! Now that is just plain awesome right there. I think the Mole Jack is anotheer one of those "all arounders"! Like the NO-E, ASH1, HR, etc... It just depends on your preference of thickness, ergos, etc... Very nice!

BTW: Do you wrap your handles because you prefer a thicker handle or is it a texture thing?

What Tyrkon said :D

The mole jack is essentially a SJTAC which is a great all around knife. Can someone please chime in here and tell me what the difference is between a mole jack vs a SJTAC? I have always wondered about this.

BTW: Do you wrap your handles because you prefer a thicker handle or is it a texture thing?

a little of both. on the fusion handles with the standard slabs it's for thickness, and on the mags it's more of a texture/grip issue. i pull the guts from the cords on the mags, and leave the inner cord on the standard thickness slabs. on the ergos, it's pretty much a grip thing, i like the thicker feel of the cord wrap on them. as much as i like the ergos, i have to admit that with the exception of the outlaw, they are not the most comfortable handle for me. i know that doesn't make sense since it's the same handle/slabs on all of the ergos, but what can i say. i really am a fan of the fusion handles. on the mole jack it's a bit of both. the handles are a little thin for me, and i like the feel of the cord wrap. it just feels a more comfortable in my hand that way. the ergos are a little harder to wrap, though. and my badger has some sweet reese weiland micarta with mosaic pins on it that i just can't bring myself to hide, so that will definitely stay unwrapped.

IIRC, the Mole Jack is a Satin Jack variant: black/black micarta; sterile; "special" heat resistant coating; (?) Mil-O/R for the IDF or a branch of same (?) before there were military over-runs or do I not RC ? Could just be faulty recollection or believing Rumor Central. Pete

what pmsayre said, i believe. the mole jack comes in around 3/16's and was supposedly a thinner, lighter version of the satin jack. i believe it was also supposed to have a little more attention to the edge and was said to be one of the sharper edged busse's from the factory. i'm pretty sure he is correct in that they were only available black/black and sterile, but i won't swear to all of this.

ergos were only offered in one thickness and didn't have a magnum option. to the best of my knowledge fusion scales first became available on the steel hearts and have always been offered in both standard and magnum, although i won't swear to this.

Thanks for bringing the Mole Jack to my attention, never seen one before. It looks quite a useful knife for combat or utility. The plain style of it would put it more towards a medium sized utility for me compared to the aggressive design of the HR which I would mainly use for combat. But hey thats just me.

SKUNK put out a detailed descripition of Mole in the past . Maybe some one could pull it up . I believe it has alittle more heat treating and a special coating on it . Heres a pic its the one in the center of pic .

So Mole Jacks are sterile, while all SJT are logoed? OK, that helps.

But what about the blade profile?

Skunk described them as:

"only time and very limited, .187 thick, sterile, very nicly done and a special extra sharp "Mole Edge"

very few, very nice, very..... center of the earthly.'

"The Mole Jack has a 3/16th" non-serrated blade, same thickness as the standard Satin Jack Tac. It has a different edge profile than the regular Satin Jack Tac; I'm not sure if it has a totally different grind or not. It is also supposed to have a different coating although it looks similar to the black crinkle coating. Anybody have any info on the coating?"

"Mole Jack configuration of the Satin Jack Tac. This was a limited run with a more thinly-ground profile for super-aggressive cutting and penetration. I’m not the original owner, but it appears new, unused, uncarried, unsharpened. Trying the edge with my thumb suggests it is aggressively sharp.

Blade length is 6 ½” from micarta handle slab to point, and overall length is 12”. Black crinkle finish with gray/black micarta slabs. No sheath. Blade thickness appears to be right at 3/16”. Weight is approx. 13 oz. with great balance (balance point is just behind the guard), making this one of the fastest full-tang Busse creations in hand.

Sharper and faster—a very impressive refinement of the popular Satin Jack Tac design."

Has anyone done a side-by-side comparison that can enlighten us? We need pics!

I totally agree that there is just some thing special about the Mole Jack. Its the one I've had sitting by my computer for the last week to give that quick, "I need a knife to fondle" fix. (You know you do it too.:D:D:D)

Also, the Mole Jack essentially has a full height convex grind vs the flat grind of the SJTAC. I think the other differences have already been mentioned.

I had one and sold it because i fell into the same mind frame of "when will I use this knife???" I wish I still had it because its one of those "I dont know why I like it but I DO" knives.

Man! You have the sickness BAD!!! :D

I know... because I suffer from the same ailment. My girlfriend does not understand. She thinks I am weird when I fondle my knives with adoration. You guys understand me... I understand you.

It is good that we have our Blade Forums Support Group so that we may share our experiences with one another. We should call it... INFIHOLICS ANONYMOUS.

Hi, my name is Kevin... it's been 2 hours since I touched my FFBM... and I am starting to feel lonely. :(

OH... by the way... sweet pics! I am headed to the safe now.

I have a tan on tan SJTac that I feel similarly about. It's just such a great design.

Mole Jacks are not lighter or faster, they just have a thinner edge and a heat resistant coating, as well as being sterile. It is the same knife.

sooooooooo no one else has mentioned it, what the heck is with the fusion pommel shadows across the satin finish of the fsh????

it gives it a nice industrial look. I'm curious if jerry could do a custom air brushed technique on an actual powder coat blade like that, similar to the ones seen on the custom swamp rat forest leaf camo blades.

wich do you like better, the fusion or ergo handles?

I have a standard satin jack, and it is the only busse I have right now. sold off everything else because I could logically tell myself that something better was on the way, a better chopper then the ffbm, and a better skinner then the modded nick that I had. but the satin jack...

There are better prybars. I owned one, the hogsjtacle. There are better choppers, again the the hogsjtacle. there are better edc cutters, like the LE batac - especially with a custom edge. It really isn't the best in any catagory.

but its perfect. and thats all that matters.

holding it my hand, there isn't a noticeable flaw in grip, balance, or aesthetic image. once I get my skinners, I may go back to dual carry, with it as my prybar.
