Hello,
Great forum.

I have $135 to spend at CRKT and looking for advice. I've pursued their site as well as read a bunch of reviews and other threads after Googling, "coolest CRKT knives". I thought I'd reach out to you guys. If you had $135, what would you purchase.

Currently my knife needs are purely EDC in an office setting and around the house. I always have one on me. Leek (Ken Onion Kershaw) at the office and a Mini Griptillian (Benchmade) at home. I lost a Ripple (Ken Onion CRKT), but I liked it.

I like classy and unique knives for EDC at the office and around the house. I really appreciate the combo straight/serration blades, and have that on my Leek and Mini Grip. I don't know much about the steel types or what I prefer. Thoughts?

Ouch. It means paying the premium to get it straight from the company, so of course the $135 doesn't go as far as it would if you could spend it at a retailer.

I'd say the best bet is that rather than a knife, get the Ken Onion Worksharp, sharpening system they sell through their site. I have one and they are very easy. On their site it doesn't cost much (if any) more than through retailers, so it minimizes that penalty of buying through the manufacturer. It also comes out to almost exactly your credit amount... If you're well set for knives, the best you can do is have a good sharpening system for them.

Interresting idea. I'll check that out. I've only used the V type sharpeners and sometimes the Lansky system. Worksharp deal looks unique. I'll have to do some research.

Definitely a very different system from what you're used to. Unless I'm working with an incredibly wear-resistant super steel like S110v, I can go from dead dull blade, to a mirrored edge convex in about 5-10 minutes and it'll shave hair and slice paper perfectly.

When you look it up, you'll see that the common pitfalls are when people pull the tip al the way through the belt, and round the tip of the knife, or go too slowly at the beginning and grind a recurve into their blade. Both are easily remedied with a little technique, but that's a discussion that falls well outside the scope of your original question, so I'll let that be a topic for another thread rather than derail this one.

This is a great suggestion! What happened for them to give you a credit?

The Crossbones is a cool looking slim EDC knife, and I believe it won "Import Knife of the Year" at Blade 2017. If you like partially serrated knives, check out the Fossil models.

These are the CRKTs on my short list. Some are over $135 but they would probably let you pay the difference. NOTE: The following are retail price, not LIST PRICE.

CRKT 9750 Trencher Folding Shovel 27.188" Overall, Steel & Polypropylene Handle, Nylon Sheath ($100 at CRKT, $58 at Knife Center)

Had an issue on a Ripple (I lost one a year ago, purchased new one, but it didn't flip as nicely as the old one, even after some adjustments) and sent it in for resolution. They called and said there was something wrong, not fixable, and the version I had was discontinued, so they gave credit.

I’m not gonna recommend a specific knife but if you like a combo edge I strongly suggest you get something with VEFF serrations. They are awesome.
Yeah, love Veff serrations but they can be a pain to sharpen. Especially the older style.

The one thing I like from CRKT is the Swindle model. Should be great in an office environment.

If they have it, I'd grab the new Pilar with CF and S35VN steel. Always wanted to try that knife and the more premium materials should be a nice upgrade.

I'll second this - I just saw the S35VN Pilar today myself and thought about pulling the trigger....I still may

I really like my Follow-Through Compact. The $69.95 pricetag on CRKT’s website is a little steep though IMO as I paid under $40 last year from a retailer....

“Pilar with CF and S35VN I can’t find the CF Pilar with S35VN in the CRKT site. Looks like it’s just for one distributor. Hmmm.
