FB - Koa is a hardwood from Hawaii....stabilizing is a must. But once stabilized, it is a knifemaker's ideal wood.
My top three favorite woods in terms of beauty, usability and stability are:
Desert Ironwood
Koa
Cocobolo
Koa is not as dense as ironwood, but smells alot better and is easier to work than the other two. It stays put, won't move on ya like even some other stabilized woods do (maple included). Drills easily without blowing out...finishes nicely...has great figure...what more can I say?
I know what youo mean. I've been watching Dan's work for a while now and finally pulled the trigger on one. I was looking at this one too but since he started all these new projects my head is spinninig. Dan you sure offer a hell of a lot of choices for us
If you do get it please post a review if you make it a user.
I will think a little on that one. It may have to wait until after XMAS unless Mrs Santa can take a hint. At least I know where to get one now. Thanks a lot. Great looking knife.
