Talkin' about names for my knives with Talfuchre, and he suggested I stick with names guys could remember. Now, I'll eventually have some neck knives named "A-cup", "C-cup" etc. etc. :D but I figured I'd start with something a little less risqué and I think Moonshine fits this group of knives well. Simple, stout, unrefined, and a heck of a lot of fun:thumbup:

The Moonshine series will all be along these lines: Micarta handles, rough machine finished 5160, similar handle profile, all flats left 'as heat-treated' except wherever I bumped 'em with a belt a left a few scratches:o Definitely not beauty contest winners, but they will be ready to work!

These are both 1/4" thick,cold-blued, with green canvas micarta scales. The Long-Clip with the finger choil(SPF) is 16 1/4" overall, 10 1/2" tip-to-plunge line. It's got a high sabre grind. The Drop-pointSPF is a measly 15 1/4" overall, 10 1/4" tip-to-plunge line. It's got a full-height convex grind. Both will get a convex secondary bevel, and both are ground fairly thin. Not delicate, but I don't like a knife (even a big knife) that won't cut, and I promise these will:thumbup:

(The Buck is just in there for size reference, it's not included:))

A couple of big, basic cutters! The price on these is: $185 each, including a very basic kydex sheath with nylon belt loop. Paypal preferred, though I will take a USPS MO, also. Shipping and paypal fees are included in the price. Please post an "I'll take it" in this thread and send me an email.

Thanks,

Walter

Man, those are some big axx blades! I'd call them DD at least.

Nice blades/choppers!

Approximately how much do they weigh?

I respectfully disagree.

If the neckers are A-cup, C-cup, etc., then those two are most definitely the start of the "John Holmes Collection."

Man, that would go nicely with your Purpose Driven model I got off of you...I have been meaning to tell you how great it is...I have been treating it badly, and it keeps asking for more!
Walters knives are one helluva bargain. Gene

Those look really, really great Walt!!! Nice work. I love the name and I love the 'characteristics' of the line, semi-rough and ready to work.

Full convex grind with a edge convex grind? Should cut jolly well. Will be saving my pennies now :)

Picture of blade in sheath?

Should chop until the cows come home methinks... Excellent.

Thanks for the kind words, all:thumbup:

I'm not sure on the weight, I don't have any kind of scale accessable to me currently. The convex Drop-Point feels slightly heavier, but it may just be a balance thing:D

Cotherion, I haven't made the sheaths yet. I debating whether I should make them fold-over style for efficiency and low weight, or pancake style so there are more tie down options with the eyelets on both sides.

Give two options with different price so people can choose. I myself like the pancake but my pal loves the foldover cause its simple and doesn't stand out.

Differentially heat treated?

They're fully hardened. I don't normally attempt to differentially harden unless I'm going for a hamon, which is something I haven't tried since I purchased my Evenheat oven. With 5160 not showing the vibrant, active hamons like some other steels, I don't usually try for them.

These are "Beautiful" Knive's, It's hard to tell by the picture's but they almost apear to have a Color Case Hardened look to the finish, Your doing some Very Nice Big Blade's/Bowie's, I wish I had the Cash I'd be getting one of these, Great Job "I like your Work !

Walter

I just received my knife, you have to feel how sharp it is to believe it. Man, you did a NICE job and I am so impressed, I am thinking about taking the other or a midsize.

GUYS, you are missing out on a great deal here.

Mitchell
