Moore Maker Knives?

Mike,

Could you clear some questions for me..

The MooreMakers in yellow delrin are Camillus?
And the horn?
The MooreMakers in bone are Queen?
The more expensive bones are still Queen?

Thanks...

I'm lookin for a good EDC trapper with carbon steel blades to save wear and tear on my Granddad's old Case, which is my EDC knife now.

I don't understand all the stockman talk here, since he said he's looking for a trapper.

At any rate, Carolina River Rat, I'd suggest you get a newly made Case. Their recent stuff makes for a top-notch user knife. Here is a link to a list of Case's CV (carbon) steel offerings. You've find a couple nice trappers there.

neeman, it was much simpler before Camillus went under. The Bone / Stag / Rams Horn was Queen; and the composite / Buffalo Horn was Camillus. Now they have composite / horn / stag made by both and a couple of single blades made by Boker.

They have half-heartedly tried to put "B" at the end of patterns made by Bear; but there are exceptions. If you have any variant you wish to know specifically just email me with a link to the picture.

Actually he asked about Moore Maker Trappers. But this thread lingering to stockman and Case models isn't such a suprise. When our brains start wondering we can just refer back to the subject I guess.

FWIW, I was told directly while chatting with one of the Moore's on the phone that the large yellow delrin sodbuster (which I had thought made by Camillus and said so) was in fact made by Queen.

CRR, the "Even-End Trapper" is a great knife. I picked one up about a year ago and just love that knife. Plus, it's a pattern you don't see very often. Mine's a 2001 model with the tan colored bone. It's the only trapper I own from MM, though the sowbelly moose I have (also a 2001) has trapper style blades (clip and spey).

Thanks Blues. That Even-Ended Trapper and Sowbelly Moose were my two favorites when I looked at their site. I thinks I'll be ordering one of the two soon.

You're welcome. If I could only have one of the two I'd take the even-ended trapper but bear in mind that it's a bigger, stouter knife. (3 7/8 oz. vs. 3 oz.)

So if size and easier pocketability are factors, the smaller sowbelly might better fit the bill. (And the blade sizes don't give up much compared to the larger knife.)

Either way you can't go wrong.

Here's a great image originally posted by Zip7 here on the forum. (This image was responsible for my getting both knives. So look at your own peril. ;))

Two. Still nice but not as nice as one would have been. It'd have had to be a wide single spring to accommodate these blades however. (Like the wide backspring in the Case-Bose muskrat.)

Crr,
FWIW I have owned both Case and Moore Maker trappers and preferred my MM trappers. Better fit and finish on the few I have had for comparison. I would recommend them.

Well here I go again. I was tantalized by a smooth yellow bone whittler MM - some members should be paid commission for their photos they post. At the time it was my most expensive slippie. Over all, it was not worth the MM premium. I then ordered a MM Camillus Muskrat a big mistake. I like the Whittler, but I'd just as soon get a Queen in D2. The Camillus MM is my one knife that is like sharpening a bayonet. It just won't take an edge that I am use to getting on my Cases, Bokers, or Queen. Bear may be making a better "low-end" MM, I don't know. After looking at the above pics I woo'd again and started looking at MM again.... I caught myself and started looking at Northfields.

Camillus made knives are well made in my opinion. While true that they didn't have the "polish" of brands like Case they have a rugged like appeal. Both my MM's don't have a bit of blade play. The f/f on the muskrat was a bit better than the stockman. They're work horses
