Moore Maker Knives

Really been wanting a Moore Maker (my mothers madien name, her Dad, my Grandfather was a HUGE influence on me)....if you have one any opinions good and bad are greatly appreciated...pics would be awesome.

Thank you.

MooreMaker doesn't make knives. Before Camillus closed, they made knives for MooreMaker. Now they get them from Queen in Pennsylvania and Bear & Sons in Alabama. I heard that their higher price point knives come from Queen. The picture shows a pattern #5304 stockman with yellow bone, 4 3/8 inches closed, made by Queen in 2008. It probably has D2 steel blades. I have not used it but it seems to be a high quality knife, which is what you would expect from any of the Pennsylvania firms today.

a lot of their knives are made by queen, some have carbon steel blades, I have a 3 blade whittler with carbon steel blades. you can go to their website and check them out too.

Point of correction. Queen has always made the top end MM knives; the carbon (there are a couple of SS models) have always been 1095. Camillus did make the economy line, now Bear and Boker (only couple patterns) make them; also most are 1095.

The Camillus made ones are good stout knives. The F/F isn't as elegant as the Queens and now Canal St., but they are put together.

OK, so are Moore Maker made by Bear, CSC, & Queen, depending on the model?

While I have never had a Moore Maker, I have had a fairly recent Bear & Sons (A Heritage model) & I wasn't impressed. I've liked my slippies made by CSC & Queen far better, FWIW.

Although I prefer D2, nothing's really wrong with 1095, either.

I haven't heard the Canal Street source before. I wouldn't expect the Bear made Moore Makers to be any better than the Bear themselves.

I have three Moore Maker stockmans. My honey bone #5301, 3-7/8" is one of my favorite EDC's, great blade profile, kind of like a turkish clip of 1095 steel. Really good cutting tool.

My other two MM's are 4-1/4" stockman in stag #6302, and a burnt orange bone #5302. All really good uesrs.

All three made by Queen, beautiful fit and finish.

I have a Queen-made 5301 that is really well made with great fit and finish. Here it is with two Queen-branded knives:

As far as I know Canal Street only makes the mesquite trapper for them at the moment. I'll try to find out if there are others.

Beautiful examples Lambertiana and Beaver!

Here are 3 of my favorite Moore Makers

4 1/2" stag linerlock Trapper: 6206LL/2007, Queen. this is a very nice knife.

3 7/8" Buffalo Horn Premium Stockman with Punch blade: 2305/2004, Camillus. another very nice knife.

comparing these knives, the Camillus is definitely equal to the Queens.

If you look on the MM site you can tell the bears, as they are lacking the two pins on the ends of the scales.

mesquite has outer layer of light plain wood.core is dark golden brown
the core has great figure & is hard
in my opinion mesquite should be stabilized
his ranch has some trees exceeding 100 yrs. some yrs. back he sent in some great mesquite to be stabilized. shipped wood to gary randall & gary made 3 identical knives for my brother & his 2 boys.i beleive he sent some to gary & other members of randall knife society.
not as striking as desert ironwood but still real pretty. side note 2Nd growth mesquite produces thorns which easily puncture tractor tires.

I just spoke with one of the Moores the other day. Any Bear made knife has a B at the end of the model number.

And also, A Bear & Son knife is obvious by the fact that they only use one pin instead of 3 to hold the scale on. Does anybody know if the knives made by Bear & Son for Mooremaker are made to different (higher) specs. than the line that Bear & Son normally produces?

I don't think either one of these are hard/fast rules. As there are Bear models that have 3 pin+ slabs and do not end in "B". For Example.

How can you be sure that is a bear? it looks like a Camillus to me. If it is, maybe they are listening to the forum.

*edit* I stand corrected knifeswapper.I was just on your site and saw some bears marked with a b that had pins.
