Moose Antler - Stabilize?

My brother in law has a couple moose antlers and wants to do some scales out of them. Should he be stabilizing them? Or just use it straight out of the box?

I never saw the need to stabilize dry antler. Use thin superglue to fill any porous places.

I've used a lot of antlers, Whitetail, mule deer, Sambar, Caribou,Elk, and Moose also
any number of penned red deer. Never stabilized any and have never had a problem.
I would say Caribou is the most porous, especially antlers off a cow caribou.

If it's dry you're good to go. If you wet it to bend make sure it's dry before using.
