Mora 860-MG; Allround; or Outdoor

I just won an allrounder. I can't wait to try it out. It will be my first scandi, after hearing all the good things about them I hope it lives up to the hype.

The Craftline Allrounder is a good choice. I have read that the tang is longer than on the Clipper.
The blade is a little thicker and is finished off better.

I can't see the appeal. People rave about them but I don't like how they look. I don't like stainless in my knives generally, and I like full tang and something better than plastic handles. I can't get into em. I feel like an outsider!

who gives a crap about how they look when you're 110 miles from the nearest mcdonalds and 30 miles from the nearest person? As long as it feels good in your hand and performs, it's a freaking 10 dollar knife that holds up as good as most 70-100 dollar survival knives.

ah crap, now instead of 3 choices there about 100... or 200.
Amazing variety & mostly look all the same.
US prices are a LOT cheaper, even converting the dollar.
Frieght, GST, customs likely balance it out, though.

Oh, I agree they are not beautiful at all.
In the back-up roll, they will live in the bottom of the pack & won't see much use. SS might be a good idea for that.

Fasteer, you have Napa Auto Parts in Alberta right?
I picked up a Clipper for my wife in the local Napa store here.
Check them out. Maybe they will have them there.
The Clipper is Stainless, but is a pretty nice little knife for light duty.

Cheers

I might try one just to beat the $hit out of it and see how she prevails. I do, however, like carbon in knives and full tang. Perhaps I'll set aside my prejudices this next year and throw caution to the wind!

You can get carbon steel Mora knives - somewhere around ten bucks.

Why don't you get a carbon steel Mora + a big chopper (Kukri/machete/axe/whatever) and go into the bush for a few days camping. Beat the hell out of the big chopper and use the Mora as a utility knife. Make some tent pegs by cutting some wood with the chopper then making a sharp point with the Mora. Use the Mora for food prep.

You should try a cheap Tramontina or Imacasa machete + Mora = somewhere around $25 total. You might be surprised by how well equipped for camping you can be for stuff all money! You might also be surprised at how good a utility knife the cheap & ugly Mora is.

Despite many on these forums spending a lot of money on some VERY nice knives - you can do surprisingly well on some cheap (but good performing) knives.
