Mora as main survival knife

I'm new to the forum, but just thought I'd say that I purchased a Mora Allround 5.8in and have used it as my sole knife on the last 2 backpack camping trips I've gone on. Everything I needed a knife for, my Mora held up brilliantly and after the second trip I finally needed to give it a bit of a sharpening touch-up as it wasn't razor-sharp anymore.

Now, I did have an Ontario 18in machete to do the massive chopping jobs, but as for normal knifework I never felt like I needed a sturdier knife than the mora. I love my Mora.

A Mora will do fine in a survival situation, but you have to know how to use it. There is a video posted on page one of this thread showing how wood processing is done with a small knife. It is just another example of how survival is about what's going on in your head, not what you are holding in your hand.

I think it is important to learn how to perform a range of survival tasks (make signals, shelter, fire, and basic tools) with an inexpensive knife that isn't idiot proof, even if you never plan on being in a situation where that would be all you had. It forces you to think about what you're doing and not mindlessly bash on stuff because you know your knife can take it. In other words, it doesn't matter how tough the tool is, because smart usage will almost never stress it to the breaking point.

Also what happens when you don't have your sturdy knife on you and have to use something more flimsy? Improper use will guarantee a dangerous outcome and shoddy results. Good technique can mitigate that. Sometimes it's not the tool's fault but the tool using it.
