mora decisions

Thanks Corso. I am taking one of my carbon Heavy Duty Companions out today, and maybe a hatchet and the Emberlit. Kind of have the urge ya know. Processing wood must be something primal, lol.

Primal.... yeah, it's primal to fiddle around with wood even when you don't have to when sitting around a fire not doing anything in particular.

I have three Moras, a no 1, no 2/0, and a Companion. All in carbon steel. I prefer the look of the no 1, but the Companion's grip is very secure and more comfortable. I know for a fact the Companion in offered in SS and that it what I recommend. My Moras have always done everything I asked of them, but I use them as a cutting tool only.

:D I've had to vacuum before the warden got home more than once. Sitting there watching CNN (not a good idea some days) and whittling dried choke cherry in the living room.

I just picked up a Mora 2000 to add to the pile. It has an interesting grind; thinner toward the tip probaby for detailed cutting. Seems like a pretty good (but inepensive) knife.

yeah, the 2000 takes some getting used to. I like it for food prep, nice and slicey out at the end, which is good, because otherwise it wouldn't make that great a veggie chopper. It does really well when you choke right up and grab the back of the blade.

Well it's been a couple of months since the op posted the question, but I thought I'd contribute my two cents... For your purposes I would recommend either the Mora Companion stainless steel or the Mora Pro S (stainless steel). The Pro S bade is a half inch shorter at 3.5 inches than the Companion (4 inch blade), has a wider blade but is slightly thinner on the spine. If you are in Canada it's easiest to order from Bushcraft Canada based in BC...

Ftr...that looks an awful lot like my Mora Bushcraft ;).

I prefer the Mora Stainless bushcraft for all the reasons that FTR said + it has a little more steel tang for rigidity / handle durability.
It is the most comfortable Mora I have ever used.
