Mora Eldris..

I was tempted by the Edris myself, being from Europe and all... I decided against it after some test.

It's really small AND bulky, which is a problem design-wise. It takes too much space for the small blade it has. It's also very crampy after 2 minutes of use, I have small hands mind you. It reminds me of the Candiru, by the Esee. It's fine for cuting paper or cardboard, but it hurts the hand if you use it seriousely on a camp.

Then, you have the ugly price. For half the price you can have a mora companion, which is more versatile knife and much better value. It's better looking too if you care about that.

You could pack a mora companion only and be prepared for everything. Food prep, feather sticks, fire sparks, mid heavy duty, skinning... You can even use it to defend yourself if you can't pack a gun. I can't say the same thing about the Edris. It's just a dumb blade, especially compared to the companion, which is one of the best fixed knife you can buy.

I consider knife as tools and I care a lot about their design. The Companion is a wonderful tool, the Edris is more a fun-cute blade for children or sheep.

Despite the short blade, my wife claimed mine for kitchen duties, and has become very fond of it. It’s easy for me to touch up the edge and her hand doesn’t fatigue, unlike some of our other kitchen knives.

the only kitchen duty I could see is maybe slicing a thin brick of cheese, it seems too short to be much use in normal kitchen duties
what does she use it for normally?

I've used mine as a bait cutter quite a bit, and do like it. It doesn't like the salt that much, so probably won't leave it in my tackle bag, but it does well enough. It will probably be the first knife that gets used when the nephew is a little taller and we start cutting sticks.
For stashing in a small walking kit, I think it has value, the handle is good enough to hold with gloves, or cold hands.
Its twice as heavy as a Becker Remora, and a little lighter than an Izula w/scales, so I'd put in in a catagory for "knife you can forget about but beat on" If I really wanted a fixed blade for hiking on a budget, its one of the better cheap, lightweight options in my opinion.
I can see how its not for everyone, but I think they made some really good choices here. The grind allows you to use it without having the handle parallel to the cutting surface. Its not a normal life made mini, its designed as a small knife.

I didn’t care for it and gave it away. For me a knife with that much belly can’t be that short. I need a longer flat area for feathers and such. If it were a sheepsfoot or something closer to a delica as far as the edge shape it would be much better. It’s smaller than an izula 2 and that really is as short as I go on a fixed blade. A mora companion cut to the same blade length would be a better knife imo.

Veggies mostly...last night, peeling potatoes. Trust me, I tried to convince there’s better knives for the kitchen, but she likes it. What’s a guy to do?

I'd give her a stainless mora fillet knife like this, 3.5" - it's only 0.05" thick, and expect she'd have tears of joy slicing up veggies like a laser

They are great knives! I liked it enough to buy a second. It's a nice companion knife to go with Kansbol, Garberg, or other bigger knife.

Know what you are getting though! It is short (2 1/8 inch blade, of which less than 1 inch is scandi ground) and the handle is short and fat. I get a lovely 3 finger grip on it with my size large hands.

I also like and recommend the belt loop for carry or on a pack strap, or in the pack.

When I travel for spearfishing, the only knife I use for food prep is a fillet knife. It's basically all you need.

I use a 7" and 8" Dexter and the 7" works great on everything in the kitchen .

I did search and did not find what I was looking for.. Also time and opinions change..

Soo.. Who has one and how do ya like it?? Yeah/Nays are all welcome.. Thanks..:D

for $25 you can't get a better tiny fixed blade with a great grip, go to your local knife shop and hold one : )

I have one. I agree with dirc. I carried mine in my right front pocket as a urban EDC for about 3 months. Loved it. I used it for all the things I would normally use my pocket knife: Some work in the garden trimming bushes, cutting twine, opening boxes. Worked great. Loved the handle that gives such full control over the blade. I found the blade to be more than adequate even in the garden. I only stopped carrying it because it is not legal to carry a hidden fixed blade in California. I figured sooner or later I'd end up in the hoosegow. I might have to get me one of those adapters for belt carry. I might get some raised eyebrows, but I'll stay out of jail. Really great knife. Highly recommended.

I know they're kinda cute and a lot of people use them as neck knives, but for not much more you can get a Kansbol, which is pretty much a full sized Eldris. I'm curious as to what attracts people to the Eldris instead.

I already have a belt knife, but I needed a smaller blade as well and the Eldris fits that. Plus, every time I pull it out someone mentions how awesome it looks.

As I said, I like the Eldris for what it is but that 3.5" Mora had my old hands screaming " buy that" for a kitchen knife. Just ordered.

Thank You all again..:D:thumbsup: I do appreciate all the posts.. I do have a Pro S.. I like the Pro S just want to try something a little different..;) Again.. Thanks!!!:D

For me it would probably be too fat for pocket carry. Too pricey. Too stubby. I wanted to like this one , but it's just too.

Ok, I broke down and ordered 2 today, one for my tackle box, and one for her. Of all the times the members of this forum convinced me I needed something, this was probably the most budget friendly purchase. Much appreciated. lol
