Mora Eldris

I hate the idea. People fetishize Ötzi's knife, but he was working with the materials he had. Stone is brittle and places limits on how long a blade can be. For all we know Ötzi's knife was worn out and close to being replaced.

That said I don't hate this knife. I got my daughter one. I think a short blade is a good idea when learning how to use a knife. Longer blades aren't as nimble and require more skill to use.

Hmm. OK.

Mora has had the small Eldris out for some time now. What do you all think of this knife overall?

I really don’t like carrying knives around my neck so this likely would go into my front pocket.

I have one. I bought it last year and carried it in my front jeans pocket as an urban EDC. Loved it. It did everything I needed doing as an urban home owner. Opened packages, great for working the yard. Wasn't too bulky in a jeans pocket. The handle is to die for. Gives full control of the knife and is really comfortable for middle sized hands.

I stopped carrying it because it isn't legal to carry a concealed fixed blade in California. There's a doohickey you can buy that will turn it into a belt knife. I may buy one and go back to carrying it at some point. But you know the deal, "so many knives, so little time." I'm on to trying out something else these days. But I liked it.

There's a nice YouTube from some fella demonstrating what you can and cannot do well with the knife if using it in the woods. I enjoyed watching it.

I have small hands which make it feel huge.... um... wrong subforum. Its a love it or hate it knife, I've used mine a lot as a bait-cutter, and it does well. I like that mora sheaths are easy to clean out. I figure it will get some use when the nephew starts learning to whittle.

Like others, I asked myself what it will do that a Mora Companion cannot and also why does it cost more than the Companion.

I just picked one up and added the belt loop for $3. The belt loop has a slit in it for button carry, which I really like. I have a leather dangler with an s-biner that I keep on my belt for easily adding/removing a sheath, and I just added a button to it for Scandinavian knives with the button feature on their sheaths now that I have a couple. You could attach it to a chore coat, jacket, or overalls with the existing buttons too.

I like the knife for detail work. I have XL hands and found the handle adequate so far. I did some carving with it and was happy with the performance.

I plan to wear it as my "around town" fixed blade, and maybe as a neck knife when backpacking. My state requires them to be visible. Mine is blue and small enough that I don't think it will draw unwanted attention. It certainly looks more like a tool than a weapon, which is what drew me to it over other options.
