"... I prefer the budget models because they're lighter, thinner, and cost a lot less."
That sums up the essential virtues of Mora knives.
I have Moras in all flavors, my favorites being the #2/0 and the carbon Companion.
I was excited when Mora introduced the Heavy Duty Companion. I bought one right away, and subsequently had a difficult time admitting that it just didn't perform as well as the thinner models. The scandi grind just doesn't lend itself well to thicker bladestock.
Thankfully, this was not an expensive lesson to learn.
As for the Garberg, it has a lot going for it: the handle shape looks great, I like the sheath, and I'm a big fan of 14C28N.
I much prefer it to 12C27.
Which is why I've been making eyes at the Kansbol: same shape, similar sheath, overmolded handle like the Companion, and that intriguing compound grind. I wish it was also made in 14C28N. For $35 or so, it's expensive for a Mora, but it's not...
$95?! For that, I'd rather buy a Companion, a pack of cigarettes, twelve beers, six tacos, and three more Companions.
