I'm guilty of being die hard mora lover...not because they are cheap, but because the of certain attibutes that appeal to me
1) I like the thin stock of the blade...(.098) if i'm not mistaken
2) i like the narrow with of the profile
these 2 attributes lend them selves to both a knfe that can be a first class carver as wel as a great small game and fish knife,

3) The 3.75 inch blade length Seems perfect for most general tasks
4) the oval handle shape of the wooden handled moras lends itself to many different grips

5) scandi grind -easy to sharpen in the field with minimal equipment and great for wood working

6) 1095 steel one of my fav's

of course one problem with the mora is that they are not full tang, something that always is creepin in the back of my mind.

With these things in mind I contacted Doug Dart over at DP knives and asked if he could drum me up something with these specs. Doug was happy to oblige and brought to life what might to me be an ideal belt knife

here are sme teaser pics of the prototype.....which I just recieved today... I haven;t got it outside yet but will give it a proer initiation and report back later this week

Doug (DP Knives) Looks like you drummed up a winner

Nice John I am glad to see these pictures up quickly and cant wait till you get to use it outside. The steel is 3/32 1095 and the handles are Mahogany. I hope it lives up to your expectations. Good luck and thanks for the chance to create something special for you. Doug

Looks great! Reminds me a lot of the new Bushcraft Basics knives that Condor is putting out.:thumbup:

Thanks for the kind words guys... in all honesty the pics don;t do it justice... this is my 4th knife of Dougs, and this one is just great the f&f are top notch ..

 No hot spots on that handle.

Questions:

You called it a Prototype. Will there be changes coming? What kind?
What wood is that?

 Very nice. I would do exactly the same except a little taper front and back to the handle.

I have quite a few of Doug's knives too, Now that I see that one, I may be over do for another one.:D

I kind messed up one of them, I had used it to field dress a deer. I stuck it under the seat of the truck and forgot about it for almost a year.:o The blood and rust did a job on it. I got most of it off but it damaged the edge some. I took the belt sander and convexed the edge, I think it has a lot of good left in it now.

I love the knife. i too am a mora fan and am modeling a knife on a mora ( a few slight changes but pretty much the same.) SDS is making it.

great stuff man
need some user pics now. and a in dept review ;)

That looks pretty nice, I've been getting into the scandi wilderness tools latley.

Thanks for the compliments guys.. Doug is a great guy to work with...and gave me exactly what I wanted.
