Does anyone know if you can use the edgepro to sharpen Mora (scandi grind) knives? Is the angle too steep?

I think we had a thread about almost the same thing just the other day.

Most guided systems won't work with a mora, because the edge angle is not common (because its a zero grind). I think its 12.5 degrees or something like that.

However, scandi grinds are super simple to sharpen. Just lay the crazy large bevel on something flat and abrasive, and go to town. This is my preferred method, because I like the zero grind on the Mora.

You could use the system and give it a secondary bevel (as long as its more obtuse than the original factory grind), and that will work just fine. It will still be "sharp" but it will not be a scandi grind anymore, it will be a low saber grind.

Good luck :).

I've never used my edgepro to sharpen a mora so I just set it up for a dry run and it looks like it will work but I think you'd be better off using the stones freehand

May I ask why you want to use a guided system for your Mora? The scandi grind is just about the easiest to sharpen, its difficult to get wrong even for the least experienced sharpener and going freehand will be cheaper and leave you with more options.

You can use the stones from the edge pro. Just lay them on a flat surface

I think you could do it on the edge pro, it would be easy on the straight section of the blade, but you may run into trouble on the belly and tip

Edgepal offers half degree steps for sharpening on their Forest system. The cheapest one, but it is not quite cheap.

Yes, you can sharpen one on an EP, but it's just as easy to use a benchstone.

You can sharpen a Mora anyway you want. I prefer to maintain the scandi grind they come with. For that use the stone freehand and it will be fine.

SS or Carbon Moras both sharpen up easy, that's the part of the reason I love them.
