Hmm, seems to be a good idea executed poorly. I dont like that the firesteel pops out so easily from the handle. Also, that makes the lanyard nearly useless; if you drop the knife, the bladed portion will fall and the firesteel will be wrapped to your wrist. I also prefer to use a lanyard on a way to choke back on the knife for more leverage, this wont be the case. Although I guess those using Mora's arent really using them that hard though ;)
 
Have to agree the idea is better than the execution. The firesteel seems to pop out a little to easily. Perhaps a threaded butt for the firesteel would be better, that or some other more secure method of retention is needed.

As for the lanyard on a knife this small I only use it as a means of pulling the knife out of the sheath or of aiding in me finding it my pack. The brightness of the handle would probably get round the need for a bright lanyard to help me spot the knife if dropped.

I look forward to the Mark 2 version of this to see what improvements they make.
 
Nothing like wearing a pair of sandals around with 5 unsheathed knives on the floor... :eek:

I'll throw my +1 in with Glockfire and RoyalM. Looks like it'd be too easy to loose.

Maybe that one has just been fiddled with so much that it's loose, or was a prototype. A better idea would be a tapered thread in the butt of the handle. Then you could tighten it up however much was necessary. I really like the initial idea.

very cool initial idea but just having them come out with a DECENT firesteel attachment on the sheath would be better, not the one they recently came out with.
 
There's been a decent method around for years--it's called a ranger band! :D
 
I get 'em for free at the local bike shop. Just ask for a bag full of used innertubes. They just throw them out, usually. You get a nice variety of sizes that way, too. Then when you need a band just find a tube of the right diameter and cut a section of it. :)
