I am looking to buy a cheap, Scandinavian style knife mostly for my collection, but also for any imaginary survival situations I might encounter :D.

Both knives are very different, the mora is carbon steel and scandi ground, while the Finn Bear is stainless and hollow ground. I know the mora has a very good reputation, but how well the the finn bear perform at similar tasks?

It is my opinion that you can expect better edge retention, toughness, ergonomics, and sheath with the Mora in carbon steel. With the Finn Bear you will get better rust resistance.
With the stainless version, it's a lot more comparable, but while I think the Cold Steel would be stronger and tougher with better rust resistance, the Mora still wins with the ergonomics (very important to me), sheath and edge retention.

Cold Steel might be my favorite company, but it is my opinion that Mora wins this round.

Just curious, what is it exactly that makes cold steel your favorite knife company?

Maybe there was a little bit of sarcasm in that when he said it was his favorite company.

I'm pretty sure it's his favorite knife company and his favorite knife is the recon 1. Just wondering why? is it there corny videos or maybe it's because he doesn't have experience with many other company's. I'm just wondering what it might be that makes cs his favorite company?

Is it so hard to believe that someone enjoys more of their products than any other company's? Maybe their knives fit someone's needs best. Maybe someone likes the value or affordability Cold Steel offers. Maybe they've never failed for someone and so they trust them. It's not my favorite company, but I can see how it might be someone else's.

I generally like Cold Steel's products, they are little mall-ninja at times, but their products are affordable and reasonably useful.

Back on topic though, does anyone else have an opinion as to which knife is better?

Totally forgot to respond to the topic. :p

I would go with the Mora. You can get them in Stainless or Carbon depending on your preferences, the Scandi grind is easier to maintain, the sheath is miles better than the FBs, and Mora's reputaion is what it is for a reason. A lot of people would trust their lives to a Mora. Can't say I've ever heard the same about a Finn Bear. Personally, I like the Robust the best. It's thicker, larger, stronger. All of my Moras have served me and my family well and they've always been worth their price and then some. I'd also suggest the Carbon over Stainless on these unless you live in a high humidity environment. Just keep em oiled and clean and you shouldn't have rust issues.

I like the looks a little better on Finn Bear, but it sounds like the Mora Robust is a better performer all around. I'm definitely leaning towards it.

Mora for me. I like the blade of the Cold Steel Finn Bear, but the handle was not comfortable to me. Wish I had one of the old Normarks that the Finn Bear is based on though.

Emphasis on performance and functionality above all other considerations, as well as good quality control and great customer service combined with a good warranty. I also really like how they back up their claims on video, something we see too few companies doing. This means when I buy one, I don't have to worry about it sucking. I've never been disappointed with a Cold Steel knife.

Cold Steel's emphasis on performance also results in their knives generally asking reasonable prices.

I have experience with many other companies and have been disappointed by them at one point or another. The companies which have not disappointed me other than Cold Steel include Mora, Victorinox, and CRKT.

The Mora's more ergonomic IMHO, though it's sorta subjective. I do know that I hold 12C27 in high regard, but have little experience with 4116 Krupp. They both are close in cost, one is a sort of pseudo-Scandinavian knife, and the other is the real McCoy. I'd go with the Mora, but to each his own. Mora uses great carbon steel as well, and has some nifty laminated stuff on their slightly more expensive models.

I like and have both. I actually use my Finn Bear more, mostly because it's sheath is not a plastic, phallic looking tube. My Mora is sharper by far, and much more comfy in the hand. Just like my little Finn though.

I have both and while I like the design of the Finn Bear very much, the Mora is simply the better knife.

Wow, I didn't think there could be a worst sheath than the Mora. It's functional, but it's as cheap as a sheath can get.

If you like the look of the Finn Bear, maybe you should look into the Mora Classic. Straight forward design with no guard, because guards are for sissies.

You fellas need to stop worrying about what other people like or don't like. Discuss the topic, not one another.
