Just got them today!!!!!

First off the sheaths are brilliant. VERY well made and fit the knives like it's their job..... which it is of course.

The custom is a very well put together drop point, thin in stock, and has a "use me" look to it. My only complaint is the handle is a bit small for my hands.

It needed a good edge so I used the water stones first, and then convexed the edge a bit:

Despite the small handle (for my hands anyway) it's well made and a fine user so far.

More to come.....

The # II was begging for the spine to be squared off so out to the shop we go....

The before:

After with some thumb jimping:

Here is a spoon I carved with the # II, my Skookum, and my palm scoop:

This weekend I'm going to flame treat the handle, and use it to split some 6" + rounds I have in the back yard. This was all I had time to do tonight. More to come.......

Nice. I was sick and half out of it, when I shipped 'em, and forgot to sharpen Mark's knife. Forgot to leave a mark too. The edge of that Mora looks interesting. I believe I need to clean my stones :o.

The Mora is quite sharp. After the testing I'll throw it at my water stones and clean it up. The custom is now shaving sharp.

No big deal really. Gave me an excuse to play with my stones.......

:p;):D

Just a quick update.

]My Brother borrowed my butane torch in February, and of course still has it:grumpy:. He's bringing it to me on Fri night, and Sat I'll be doing the flame treatment.

I'll post pics of that, and the log splitting some time Sat, or Sunday.

Well a couple things happened this weekend and yesterday that were a little disheartening.

First while doing some long overdue clean up of my picture files, and photobucket I managed to erase my video of the flame treatment. :o

Second, my neighbor thinking he was doing me a favor pulled my pine wood out and added it to his burn pile. I mentioned that I needed to get to the dump with some boxes, and he thought that the wood was going as well, so when he was burning his pine needles he thought he would do me the favor of burning my wood as well.

Any way, I do have some pictures of the finished knife.

Flame treating is really easy. It removes the ugly paint, and raises the grain for a good tacky feel. I use a butane torch, and from a distance of about 5 to 6" away I slowly go over the handle. You want to see the paint bubbling off, but not a full on fire of course.

Once the paint is removed, I used my belt grinder and a 110 belt to re-shape the handle a little.

Then just for fun I used a old piece of sharp metal and my torch to mark it up a little.

Then I reduced a pine board (only spare wood I had) into stick using a baton.
