Just got these. Here's a few pics in the yard. I'll do a decent review this weekend.

Package contents. The Ka-Bar's all mine. :p

First and foremost, the sheathes are very nice. The custom is very comfortable and well sized. The #2 is of course a #2. Thin carbon steel blade, scandi grind, and one of the most comfortable handles I've found (runner up to the Boddington). Both knives are pretty dull, so I'll sharpen 'em up. The #2 has some nicks in the edge that I'll try to get out.

I hope soooo much that you get rid of the top guard on the new one. And PLEASE sharpen it up good! I can't stand the thick edge or top guard! Have fun with it!:p

Removing the top guard makes the Ka-Bar into a completely different knife. It's hard to explain, but that little piece of metal makes a very nice handling big knife into an uncomfortable anchor. It'll certainly get a new edge if I don't trade it first (doubt I will, but I'm finicky). The USMC in the picture has had it's edge convexed.

Well, I'm glad. I just couldn't stand that knife! Maybe I should have removed the guard? Hmmmm.

Not to move too far off topic, but wanna show ace some pics. This will take two posts.

The Ka-Bar without that dang top guard is a very versatile knife. This one is part serrated, so it's hold versatility is slightly diminished.

Obviously, it's not the best chopper, but it does alright if you choke up on the butt. (That sounded dirtier than it should have.)

Thumb along spine. Bottom guard between ring finger and pinkie.

Draw cutting. Thumb on flat of blade, fingers pressed against fuller.

Standard grip. Bottom guard between ring finger and pinkie. Balance is surprisingly nice. Gloves or paracord wrapped around gripped section of blade increases comfort and lessens risks of cutting yourself.

Wider view.

Rush job, but it can do some delicate work with the right hold.

that's a real good class on what to do with a modified Ka-bar. we need a stickie of stuff like this. Too good to leave buried in a thread somewhere

It's a mora review! I just hijacked the thread with questions about my ex-kabar! Kiahs is going to do some tests later!

Short review.

I took the Mora out this morning. I forgot Charlie's knife in the house. I didn't take many pics. Of course it performed like a Mora, very well. I made some fuzzies, which ended up being very unfuzzy. I'm still a bit dizzy Today, and my technique is way off. I sliced down a couple of saplings, but couldn't find them after getting my camera.

hey, all looks great. I really like that modified kabar stuff.

This is turning out to be a great passaround!
