I want a small inexepensive fixed blade for mundane chores and hunting/fishing. I am leaning more toward the Mora, but I don't like the sheath and I have heard good reviews about the Finn Bear. Any suggestions?

The CS might be just as good, but I KNOW that Mora's are worth every penny!

For $10 you get great, hardworking steel and ugly handle that does it's job Plus you get to see Sweden stamped into the blade instead of china or taiwan.

I can certainly agree with "get both". The only one I have experiance with is the FIN Bear and I can say that I am 100% satisfied with it for the price and what type of knife it is.

The Finn Bear is a copy of a copy, in cheap steel, and an uncharacteristic grind for the puukko it's supposed to be.

Go for the Mora every time.

The sheath works. Normark will make you a better one that you can use for a succession of nice Moras. :)

Hey Guys....

Esav..

Thanks... :)

What Esav said...
I've seen and held that CS POS as well as the Canadian Belt knife..
Thin flimsy and I wouldn't trust it as a tent stake!

Mora is proven time and time again.
Not the prettiest knife,, not the most expensive knife, but you know what you are getting...

If you don't mind the plastic handles, I'd suggest a 780 triflex, 760 SWAK, Clipper, 711,510 or M2K...

All Great knives

Stick with what works...

I have at least one of "most" of the Frosts models; all great knives for the money. The Tri-Flex rides in one of Eric's excellent sheaths. After reading about the Finn Bear and Roach Belly here, I ordered a couple of the FBs, a RB, and to round out the order, a Pendelton Mini-Hunter.

If I'm not happy with them, I'll give them as gifts. If I am,...I'll order a few more to pass along. At the price, how can one go wrong........:)

I've no experience with the Finn Bear or any of Clod Steel products. It looks like it has a cool handle shape though, like an inverted raindrop from most of the profile pictures I've seen. If CS treated the steel correctly, it could be serviceable as most 420HC. I don't know how it would compare to the Sandvik 12c27 used in stainless Moras, but I am supremely confident in all the steels used by MoS and Frosts. The plastic sheaths are lame but serviceable and infinitely replaceable

I Have the CS Finn Bear, Belt Knife, Roach Belly and Kudu. The four new knives in that series. I also have the S-1 Mora, Mora 2000, Carbon Clipper and SS Clipper. I have used the Mora's a lot more because i have had them much longer but the new cold steel knives for the price are fantastic values. I will know more about them after the big game seasons are over as I plan to use the new CS knives a lot. I will report on them after some field use. I can say that the Moras are worth much more than their price would indicate and are better than many 100.00 dollar knives. They perform better dollar for dollar than most custom knives I have used.

I have been breasting ducks with my new Helle Jublieum no. 30 I just bought from ragnars ragweed forge. Ragnar vhas many fine knives for a good price Ahiti, Helle, etc. These knives are great for fhe field. I may buy the finn bear for small money just to check it out. It got a good review in tact. knives las t month

One thing to consider is that he is talking about the S-1 Mora. This is a laminated carbon blade with a 61-62 Rockwell core. There is no way that the CS knife can compete with the S-1 in performance.

The CS is a great blade for the money. The handle isn't as bad as some say (both the friends I've bought them for love the grip as does my gf) and it will hold a good edge and perform well for any task that doesn't involve chopping or prying.

I've been loving my Mora 2000, got Eric/Normark making me a better sheath for it.

Also picked up a 740 MG that was a great deal from Ragnar.

I've no experience with the Finn Bear. I do have a few Moras. The sheaths that come with the Clipper and 2000 are acceptable as they are. All the rest will definitely mean you'll need a replacement sheath. (Unlike almost everyone else, I actually like the sheath that comes with the MK2000.)

Get the Mora model #510! Carbon steel. Snaps/locks securely in its sheath.

Not all have a long tang under their handle...

My order arrived today, and to say I'm pleased with the Finn Bear and Roach Belly would be a understatement! Both models were shaving sharp out of the box. I had been prepared to be disappointed with the sheathes after following the discussions here. I was pleasantly surprised by them as well. How they are able to offer these knives for the ridiculous low price is simply amazing!

These knives are easily on par with the "bang for the buck" I've enjoyed with the many Moras I've purchased, and I'll be ordering a bunch more as Christmas gifts. In fact, I just placed a order for three more of each.

Do yourself a favor. Pick up a couple for yourself; I'm sure you will be pleasantly surprised with these inexpensive knives as well!
