I have a Companion coming today and I was wondering how you guys sharpen your Moras. never had a scandi grind before so I'm excited to use it. I've heard of using a small microbevel and also just maintaining the scandi grind when you sharpen it. What is your preferred way to sharpen a Mora?

Depends on use. For general use, I make a micro bevel by just dragging the blade backwards across my strop. Stays sharper longer for general use. For really detailed carving, a flat to the edge hone will do better, but is more likely to dull faster and maybe get micro chips in the edge. At least that has been my experience.

It's easy to keep it flat against a stone when you've got such a high primary grind. Even if you're not very experienced with free-hand sharpening, you can probably manage a Scandi grind.

If you want to keep it scandi... there is no way arround it. Get a big flat stone and any time you need to sharpen... assume you will need to remove metal from the whole bevel. Truth is that a microvebel should suffice for most needs, but it will not perform exactly the same as the true scandi.

I find the steel Mora uses to be pretty soft compared to other knives I own so its not a big deal to sharpen the entire bevel. I use water stones for all my sharpening and would just lay the bevel flat on the stone. Adding a micro bevel is a personal choice some people want it other don't. From what I have observed most people who are into wood carving they don't want a micro bevel. I personally add a micro bevel on my finishing stone or a strop loaded with diamond compound.
