Mora vs BK14 vs Izula II vs Scandi Trekker

Thank you for all the responses!! I think I am going to go with a mora. Why does everyone seem to prefer the stainless version? I thought carbon steel was preferred in fixed blades because of increased edge retention and ease of sharpening?

12c27 Stainless is a very pure steel, I find it is superior to 1095. Yes Carbon is popular in the outdoor bushcraft world but Mora does wonders with their stainless. Sharpens just as easy, holds an edge longer, and is just as tough. When stropping 12c27, I find the edge polishes faster thus resulting in a fine edge.

The Mora SS takes/holds an edge just as well as their carbons. If you eat your apple off of a SS blade, it tastes like an apple. If you eat it off a carbon blade it tastes like the carbon blade.

I'm a traditionalist at heart and prefer carbon steel. Somehow our forefathers survived quite well with old carbon blades, it is not like they dissolve when in contact with water.

I get my carbon steel knives wet and simply wipe them on my pants or shirt when in a hurry. I don't use any oil on my blades and just try to keep them dry.

Lightweight. Camp.
Mora all day....heck for the price and weight,, bring two!

The bk14 is a great, rock solid blade,,,but the short handle is hard to get leverage with. You're looking at a three finger grip unless you're an elf

I have no experience with your other choices.

Some people prefer carbon steel for field knives because they throw better sparks off a fire steel.

I just got a Mora Pro S in the mail, the "s" is for stainless. I plan on carrying it in my backpack and not paying much attention to it. When I need it I won't have to worry about rust like I would with carbon steel.
