When it comes to inexpensive blades, Moras are very well thought of.
Try reading a few threads on the Wilderness and survival skills forum. Moras are often favorably mentioned there:
yeah, knifenut1013, knarfeng, and ElectricZombie got it right. and ditto knifenuts link, look around, theres a lot of good stuff there besides Moras, ...I have a couple Moras, I have their 760 and a #2 Carbon Steel. For a low cost I don't think you can go wrong....But I am waiting for my Bark River to arrive
moras are awesome. Ive found their stainless steel to be quite impressive in edge retention and ease of sharpening. My favourite models are the 545(ss) and 510(carbon). I have had good experiences buying them from bensbackwoods.com
I've batoned mine through all kinds of wood hell and they have held up great. I have the plastic handle variety, and they're great. The stainless is awesome as mentioned before. It can take and hold a razors edge for quite some time. Just occasional stropping does it for me. I like to make little half millimeter curls in newsprint to show how good it really is. Can't go wrong...if you treat it like a knife.
I've "re-made" three Mora Triflex (I hate plastic handles and sheaths) with
wood handles and leather sheaths. Yes, the blades are great, tough cutters.
