Morally wrong? tedious steps.

I honestly can't believe, out of all the posts previous, that I am the only one to say this! The thing I hate most hands down....... PARTING WITH THE FINISHED KNIFE!!!:( It doesn't matter what the profit or work involved, or how many times I redid the handle or grind or sheath...etc etc. I really wish I could keep them all. I only make a couple or so a month, and don't need the income from knifemaking. For this reason I have no problem saying, "I'm sorry I'd rather not make you a knife because I don't believe you would take care of it." The thought of someone abusing the fruits of your labors must drive the full time makers here absolutely insane! No one could do this for a living without loving the product they put out.... It's just financially absurd.
rant over,

I agree, parting with a nice one is really hard. I made one recently that was so very ergonomic and grippy it was ridiculous.

The worst part to me is when I have to shut the lights out for the night:( my next least is making leather sheaths. The rest is just like already said, slow and steady and do it correctly and enjoy all of it I can.

so far for me it is beveling, with balancing the curves on the scales a close second.

My least favorite part of knifemaking is that I have trouble finding time to get out in the shop. My job requires that I travel 10 states. I spent 132 nights in hotel rooms last year. It's difficult to get much done in the shop, when it's 500 to 1000+ miles away.

Hand sanding and filing out tang holes in handle materiel. Favorite part? FORGING!!!!!!!!!!

Sheaths..... I would rather pull ingrown toenails out than make sheaths- but I guess it's part of the whole knifemaking "experiance".

cutting it out with the band saw. what a PITA. It's probably the quickest process of them all but I just flat hate doing it. i'm hand sanding more and more lately and I get the zen --for about 2 hours and then it's not zen like anymore. I don't mind selling them as much as I used to, in fact i'm glad to see some of those damn things get out of the house so i never have to see them again...
