Are Frosts and Erikssons about the same as far as quality, etc? One generally any better than the other???

I have a couple of each & from what I see they are about equal. They both offer superior cutting performance for such inexpensive knives IMHO.

I'd say they're both about the same. It's a moot question now that they've merged into "Mora of Sweden."

The common carbon steel Frost's are approx 0,5 thinner than KJ (Mora of Sweden).

Nowadays they both use the same steel suppliers. These do vary depending on the world market pricing.

Carbon steel Mora's
- Swedish "Uddeholm UHB 20", cold rolled carbon steel, HRC 59-61
- German "C.D. Wälzholz-Brockhaus GmbH CK 101 and CK 95", cold rolled carbon steel, HRC 60

Laminated steel Mora's
- Swedish "Uddeholm 2140", HRC 60-62

Standard SS Mora's
- Swedish Sandvik 12C27, HRC 58-59

Anything out of Mora in a knife configuration is one of the best deals on the planet. Where else can you get a decent hunting/utility/survival blade that is reasonably tough, holds a great edge, very light, easy to sharpen and to top it all: won't kill your budget? The Mora 2000, among others, are such tools that keep taking abuse with nary a complaint.

i heard that for ss they use european mystery steel...but i don't know...i haven't done any research on this

get a ericksons mora 2000, my favorite knife even over the Tops tom brown tracker. I love my mora 2000

frost use sandvik 12c27 and eriksson use 12c27 or possibly 12c27m.
12C27 M means 12C27 modified. However it is still 12C27. Here in Sweden we do not distinguish these two steels from each other. If one of these two companies is using the M variant, then I'm certain that the other does as well. Afterall, they are both using the same steel suppliers.

yeah i know it means modified, its mostly used in kitchenknives because of more free chromium due to less carbon and more chomium of course ("dishwasher safe").

Sorry, didn't mean to offend you.

Yes, it's the only place where I've read this info also. Never 'round here. If there is interest, I'll give my friend Pär Brask of "Mora of Sweden" a call in order to sort this out?

yes please do, to stop the spread of misinformation, me personally i think eriksson use 12c27, ive been told on bladeforums "they use 12c27m" cant remember the thread tho (but i mean why would they use an inferior quality, it doesnt make sense at all). it would be interesting to know their HT methods too, if he knows that is.

btw have you tried these knives http://www.hultafors.se/ -----> knivar ----> hantverkarknivar. these are really nice, the sheets are better than kj erikssons and frosts, and they got rubber handles  , what more could you ask for. they really feel good while using them, they are my new favorite "moras".

I would like to have more info on the Hultafors products - lots of good looking tools.

I prefer the Eriksson models over the Frosts. To me the Eriksson handles are more comfortable (several models in a nice Rubber type material). I also like the slightly thicker blade and a few of the blade Shapes more.

As others have stated, hard to go wrong with either though - Best Bang for the Buck in the Knife world for a using knife.
