Is it my imagination, or has there been a substantial increase in the nunber of bad experiences being reported in the Exchange forum? If so, why do you think that is? And what is the best protection?
I've really done very few BFF transactions. One with Carey York, an individual member rather than a maker, which turned out to be very satisfactory, and one with Neil Blackwood, which I am certain will be wonderful when it is completed. I didn't know Carey and was assisted greatly by checking out other foumites opinions of their dealings with him. They didn't steer me wrong. Neil Blackwood... well, if you don't know his work, you should, and everyone sings his praises so I never had any doubt. How much reliance do you put on other fromite's reviews? I don't think I'm likely to do business with an individual I don't know who has no history or a negative review; I think I would [and I have] given makers and dealers more leeway, but not if there is a negative review and I don't know it to be unfair. How about you?

I think the increase in the number of BAD AND UGLY posts is just the nature of increased traffic and increased trading. More people, more good deals as well as bad.

I think that everyone policing each other is a good things. On BFC you can only burn one person, because after that you will be toast. It has been my experience that not very many people come away from a "BAD" thread in tact. Some times there are misunderstanding, and people who are quick to call "bad," but in the end, if the two parties are "good" then the situation gets resolved.

I like our system here, and I'd say it's much better than on other BBs.

I would not be surprised if someone entered my name here (with "bad" in the topic line). I sent by AIR MAIL some knives to US and it took them one month to reach the destination. But what can I do????

Problems and delays due to the mail should not be the seller's responsibility, unless the knives were shipped by a method the purchaser didn't want or were packaged or labelled badly. That has happened to me, and I wasn't pleased. But it is pretty common for knives crossing the US/Canadian border to be held up for a very long time. I don't blame the sellers for that. However, some vendors do an exceptional job of expediting deliveries with a minimum of fuss, and a minimum of tax. I'm not sure how. I don't think I really want to know

I'm just exceptionally pleased, and surprised, when it happens.

We've noticed the upswing of people getting burned and are looking at a variety of solutions to fix the problem.

My recommendation is that you make sure that you have tracking numbers for everything you send, money order reciepts, and plenty of insurance. Attention to detail will pay you back in spades....

There's more traffic as the membership keeps expanding, and also I think there's better reporting of problems than there used to be. I'm not seeing as many posts "Somebody ripped me off but I'm not going to say who because I don't care if other members get ripped off too" as I used to. There used to be a lot of posts like that, mostly on other forums.

Howard,
I appreciate your comments. Keeping a good name here at the Forum is VERY important to me. For me it's invaluable to have almost instant feedback and reviews of my knives. I feel that the Forum members are THE most knife knowlegeable group in the world. Reviews, comments, suggestions, and ideas from the forum members is ALWAYS valued, considered and greatly appreciated.
Over that past few months I have found myself busier that I had ever imagined!! I will continue to do my best to provide accurate delivery times and keep everyone updated on the progress of their orders.
Looking forward to putting a BUNCH of names with FACES at the Blade Show

As a newer member I think the current system appears to work well. As more individuals become members and begin trading there are bound to be some questionable results, but if new members see up-front the immediate results of deliberate misrepresentation, or any other type of shady transaction, I believe they will think twice about their reputation and their future as a member.
