I'd never "talked" to him until the last couple weeks. He seemed like a real nice, pleasant man. In fact, I just received my knife from him, *yesterday*..., kind of oddly morbid.
Thorought this past spring Mel and I corresponded regularly as he was designing a special knife for me. In July my wife and I had the opportunity to stop by Mel's home to pick up the knife, visit awhile and see some of the projects he was working on.
His craftsmanship was just beginning to attract national attention. We are all sorry to hear this news and our prayer go out to his family and friends.

I am truly saddened. I do not post here often. But from his always sensical (a word?) and friendly posts on rec.guns and rec.knives, he will be sorely missed. May he rest in peace.
