Having great respect for some of our members such as mckgreg, knarfeng, DennisStrickland, coyote711 and others who have sung the praises of the GEC Dogleg pattern, I gave in and bought one. I am just about the quintessential "big knife" guy, who used to think that anything under 4" was a small slipjoint. And while I still love my Cubans and Pioneers, this new Dogleg is not only a beautiful and pocket friendly little fella, it fits the hand VERY nicely, and should make an excellent user with a solid clip and very small, sharp pen blade.

Sneaky, eh? I didn't tell you it was in their Primitive Bone, just so you could be surprised by it's beauty. I think Rick posted a Primitive Bone the other day that blew me away, and this one does too. I think it's even better looking, and more interesting, than stag. I added a couple of close ups of both mark and pile sides to drool over. Let me know what you think.

:) Thanks for looking! :)

That is very sharp! That model is really calling out to me...

Mamba, that one right there in your possession might be the best looking primitive bone I have ever seen.

Congratulations on a top shelf GEC!

Now excuse me while I start the search for some primitive bone as nice as that.

Thanks, fellas. It is a lot like stag in that you need to see your individual knife, both sides, before you buy. All primitive bone is not equal!

I think you were very lucky to get that much detail/texture in your Primitive Bone Jeff. Very, very, nice. Great color/contrast too. I'd have to say it is perfect!! More appealing to my eye than some Stag I've seen.:)

it's a beauty jeff & i thought that little fat bottom might fit your hand pretty. i can hold onto the dogleg much better than the 3.5 in. jack. primitive bone costs more in some models than stag. certainly a rarer handle material. i'm waiting for the 23s [pioneer] to come out in primitive. --dennis

Primitive bone is certainly not created equal, yet still -each specimen has enough character to stand on its own.

It can be smooth and transparent, barky and textured, and/or full of great natural colors.

I really like the stuff. :D

I got one just because of this forum. Size is perfect for an unobtrusive EDC. And I like the character of the Primitve Bone.

Was this model considered for the 2011 Forum knife?

Very good looking bone!
I do find that model to be a great blend of robust user and pocket friendliness.

GEC did those DL Jacks up right; reminds me of a peanut on steroids! Best looking jacknife pattern to my eyes!

Very nice looking bone. I am another one of those who, after hearing persistent praise from many people here, went and ordered one of these doglegs. I went with ebony just because I'm a real sucker for it but I may have to order another in primitive bone.:cool:

Wow!!! That is a beautiful specimen. I like that one a lot. Thanks for sharing with us Jeff.

That's a wonderfully gnarly and very unique example, and it's well-matched, too. It appears that it has a few prominent foramen holes and maybe even a smattering of endosteum.

Whoever it was at GEC who had the idea to stabilize and polish that nasty pile of old distressed bone was really thinking outside the box. With a little work and imagination, they turned a rubbish heap into gold (or at least silver ;)). The stuff varies from almost flawless to frightening, and I like both extremes.

Hard to believe that this is the same material:

Thanks again for the nice comments, especially on the variable nature of primitive bone and it's texture-- that's what sets it apart IMO.
I don't think this one was considered for the 2011 forum knife-- I think it came out too late.

Ooooooooooooohhhhhhhhh . . . . ! :p

Rick, there you go talkin' sexy again! :D Your photo almost looks like their newer internal smooth ram's horn, and plenty gorgeous (like The Government says).

Hey - you're right! I never thought of it that way.

The smooth Primitive is nice, but there's something special about the real gnarly nasty stuff. Not only does it provide a better, almost stag-like grip, it makes a great worry stone. I can't stop fondling the bone (yikes!) on my #62. :o

That whittler is spectacular!

I like the gnaraly primitive bone too Rick. Keeping in mide how GEC came across their Primitive Bone and the gnarly looking (looks great) Primitive Bone on Jeff's knife you could easily imagine a maggot crawling out from under the UN-X-LD Shield.

I've been looking at GEC's Powderhorn with Primitive Bone Scales.

What an image!

I don't think Jeff is ever going to look at his knife the same way again. :D
