More Beautiful Than Stag!?!

I don't know if it's more beautiful than stag, but I will go as far as saying it's equal to it. Thanks for sharing, this is definitely an interesting handle material.

When I saw the thread title I was expecting to see something in ram's horn.;)

What an image!

I don't think Jeff is ever going to look at his knife the same way again. :D

I was just sayin .......:D

Since my last post, I have ordered the GEC Northfield Powderhorn with Primitive Bone Handles. Seeing Jeff's knife pushed me to order it.

I'll let you know if any maggots come in the tube!!!!:)

This is the first, but not the last. :D

I like the gnaraly primitive bone too Rick. Keeping in mide how GEC came across their Primitive Bone and the gnarly looking (looks great) Primitive Bone on Jeff's knife you could easily imagine a maggot crawling out from under the UN-X-LD Shield.

I've been looking at GEC's Powderhorn with Primitive Bone Scales.

And just how did GEC happen upon their primitive bone?:confused:

That some some really beautiful stuff!

Now you're talkin' Gov!

Being kinda' anal about symmetry, I've always thought the UN-X-LD congress, with that (what, modified bowtie?) Northfield shield
and long triple threaded bolsters was one of the prettiest knives in the line.

Your example of primitive bone takes it over the top!

Oh, and dannyp, I also just got a new H&R ram's horn folder--may post a "More Beautiful Than Stag!?! II" thread for it.
She's a real looker! ;) :D

Nice thanks for posting that. That these scales have a cool history behind them is just icing on the cake!

That's a wonderfully gnarly and very unique example, and it's well-matched, too. It appears that it has a few prominent foramen holes and maybe even a smattering of endosteum.

Whoever it was at GEC who had the idea to stabilize and polish that nasty pile of old distressed bone was really thinking outside the box. With a little work and imagination, they turned a rubbish heap into gold (or at least silver ;)). The stuff varies from almost flawless to frightening, and I like both extremes.

Hard to believe that this is the same material:

Yes. In my opinion, it is the best handle material they have come out with. It is so varied -- and beautiful. I don't know how much they have left of it, but I hope a lot.

I had this GEC Northfield Dogleg Jack gifted
to me from a fellow forumite! I love it!
Has excellent F/F and love that Carbon!

dang you guys, you made me want a primitive bone GEC aswell... *runs off crying while trying to catch fleeing wallet*

Jeff, your Dogleg is absolutely gorgeous!!! I've been away for a couple days (no internet), so I'm kinda late to the party here, but let me add to the chorus of praise for the Primitive Bone on your knife. WOW! Long pull, swedge, threaded pinched bolsters ..... and then top it off with that beautiful Primitive Bone!!!  :D

Thanks, Keith. As stated in post #1, it's partly your doing, so double thanks! ;)

No problem my friend! :D In fact, you may have already returned the favor - I've been on the fence regarding the Primitive Bone, but I think I've just been pushed over the edge! ;)

I'm gonna have to try a dogleg so far i've been impressed by this bone it's just so different from the offerings of case and queen.
